London by far is the most important economic city not only in Britain but arguably Europe. As a mayor of London you have increasing power over how the city is run including expenses, secuirty, tourism and every other aspect. Like parliamentary elections, each party has a candidate even though there are over a dozen running you can safely bet that there are only 3 forerunners.

Ken Livingstone - Labour
Boris Johnson - conservative
Kinnick - Liberal Democrat.

They mostly agree with the same policies of their respected parties. So as the dark cloud that is the olympics looms over us and the increasing gun crime explodes, who do you want leading London?

I got my voting papers through the other day, with the little booklet telling you who was running and what their policies were. To be honest I didn't really understand it, but I gathered you vote three times; once for the mayor, once for the person you want to respresnt your borough in the mayoral assembly and once for something I can't remember Coolio
I don't know enough about politics to give much of an opinion about the running of London and what each mayor would mean, but as I Londoner I thought I'd pitch in Dance

They use a different voting system for this, supplemetary Vote. So you have to vote for your second preference too.

Tbh I thought the Conservatives were geniunely taking the piss when I heard that Boris was their mayoral candidate. He will always be to me nothing more than a joke. God knows what he will be like if he ends up running London (which I think is sadly a strong possiblity). Mind you, I don't like Livingstone either. The only one I would vote for (and as a non-Londoner my opinion doesn't count anyway) would be Paddick.

So, yeah. Tomorrow I anticipate that Boris will win, although I hope I'm wrong. I think that the Tories will come out of the local elections well overall. If Labour are going to be thoroughly trounced then I hope it is at the expense of success for the Lib Dems.

My analysis of this whole thing is probably rubbish, but hey. xD

...Boris.

Boris The Blonde. Boris who actually is the living effigy of blonde jokes? Boris who cannot complete one sentence without fuffing it up. Boris who said, so as not to offend anyone when asked if he had slept with a man, "Not yet.". Boris Johnson who tried to take cocaine but sneezed.

They voted him.

Wow.

I'm just in shock, really.

As a Northerner I can just sit here where I'll only be able to feel slight effects from his actions and laugh.

I predict a golden age for Private Eye.

This week's HIGNFY had a hilarious clip of his first public appearance as mayor.

Falling over a podium.

Renewed my subscription last week Mr. Green . Can see that episode on BBC iPlayer now actually, just waiting for them to put the one with extra clips on it.

Aha, AS Politics has taught me something, all of my predictions turned out to be true. Sadly.

Well, y'know, the guy did go to Cambridge and has a good degree, so he can't be all that clueless. I hope. After all, his campaign wasn't as full of blunders as everybody expected it to be. One can only hope that if Boris starts buggering things up for London, this will reflect badly on the Tory party and David Cameron Coolio

Sad

I did read his page in the voting booklet but I clearly didn't take it in because I've got no idea what his plans are.

Boris though....... *is slightly worried now*
Pray fingers crossed for him stuffing up not so badly it will have an adverse effect on society but bad/often enough to make the tories look reeeaallll bad. Pray

There are very few people on this planet who are both intellectuals and leaders. The personality traits that make up those two don't seem to be very entwined. The only thing that links them is the ambition to succeed but what they see as success is a bit ying and yang.
