Ok i know this might upset a few of you but that isnt my intention, obviously.

i personally feel that GD have gone down hill at astonishing speed since the release of insomniac. I'm talking album wise. I've seen them live twice in 2005 and i was not dissapointed. They were a great live act and it was a memorable night.

But seriously. when i heard nimrod i couldnt believe how shit (in my opinion) it was. it was mostly bubblegum punk with a slight edge. like simple plan on their period.

I also dont understand the GD fans. i see myself as one as i am extremely enthusiastic about their first 4 albums. absolutely classic works of art. But i feel im the oldest one here (20) have GD officially turned into a product for children?

Please discuss in a sensible manner. i have long out grown internet arguments.

Personally, I think Warning is one of their best albums.

I have to disagree, while Dookie was a hard hitting album for them I feel that Nimrod and Warning are both excellent albums, I would even go so far as to say that Warning is my favourite album.
But as for going downhill... not a chance, yeah the style changed, but the sad fact of life is people do change, it's natural and it happens. So envitably their music will change to suit how they are now. You have to remember GD are no longer the young men they were without a care in the world, they've grown up, had kids etc...

I've listened to a lot of Metallica lately and you can tell the differences in their music as their personal lifes have changed. So it's not just GD it's pretty much every band I can think of, Blink 182, The Offspring... hell even in Rap with Eminem, his music has changed to. It just happens.

I don't think the music has gone down hill, they still make top noch songs... but they are just different to how they used to be.

and this is a seperate subject about Green Day, so yes, IMO, it is thread worthy. Razz

As for being one of the oldest... I'm 22, I'm one of the oldest but I know there are people here older than me still. And I've been here almost 5 years I know alot of the kids here know what hey are on about, don't doubt them just cos their younger Wink

I take offense to that.

We're all sorry that we couldn't be born sooner, but look at the tattoo on Billie's arm.

It says All Ages

I kid you not. Smiley

I completely agree... I've got a lot of respect for quite a few people younger than me, and I know people older than me who hold my opinion in quite high regard (but I'll stop stroking my ego now)

I'm 20 too and chances are your mommy was listening to Dookie when you were 5, just like mine was. We started listening to American Idiot at 15 and might have grown up knowing Good Riddance and Minority just 'cause we heard them on the radio. Laughing

It's okay if Green Day has younger fans, I just wish they would go to hell at concerts. The young ones really have no respect for others. Green Day should control their fans more.

We all have things we love and hate about Green Day. I feel 21st Century Breakdown is more political jargan just like Global Warming and is pretty much more American Idiot, which Green Day saw worked for them so decided to repeat. My two cents.

But don't get me wrong, I love all their albums.

I don't think you should lump "young ones" all into one category. When i saw them live, it was the "older ones" being disrespectful, so i don't think it's possible to stereotype.

Everyone's paid money to go, so everyone has the right to be there.

Btw I. Preferr the older stuff.
Insomniac was a reeeely good one and so was dooke and nimrod
kerplunk was pretty good and I think 1039/smoothed out slappy hour was better than kerplunk
I think they kinda sold out with American idiot. I mean there were a couple of good songs but I haaaaaaaattttttteeeee boulivard of broken Dreams and all the other whiney songs
I think the bounced bak with 21st but there's like one song that I don't like cause of how whiney it is!!
I mean I'm listening to android rite now (off of kerplunk) and I'm ready to go start a freaking riot!!!!
U just didn't get that with American idiot or even 21st for that matter
I think they do a good job of channeling the desire to change to much tho by creating offbrands like the network (which is just fun) and foxboro hottubs (which isn't really that good except for mother Mary)
now dry ice (1039) came on and it's like that feeling u get that they recorded it in there garage while they were reeeeeellllly high and angry too. Realllly angry
u don't get that with the new stuff

now I'm rambleing...
To sum it up the oldies is a more personal feeling and the new stuff has better production and is less hateful and has more meaningful lyrics
both are catchy it there own ways

Nice way to redeem yourself Razz

I agree with that last statement completely though.

Well i know fans of All Ages especially over at the Idiot Club so i disagree with the comment on them being a product for children. (Plus the fact kids wouldn't understand most of what Billie is saying in the songs). And with them going downhill since Insomniac, everyone has their tastes and yours obviously is the older stuff. I like all of their albums, probably because i don't really stick to one genre of music. You can't really say they've gone downhill just because it isn't your taste.

I would just like to make clear i didnt mean to offend any of Green Days younger fans. i just feel that the vast majority of their online fans tend to be in their early to mid teens and anything beyond is rare.

I first started listening to them from a very early age in a serious sense. i was lucky enough to have very musical parents growing up. My dad was in a band that supported the buzzcocks and the damned as well as my mum who toured with the Cocteau Twins and My Bloody Valentine

I am not "hating" on green days recent efforts and i still count myself as a fan. i believe that true fan should feel free to critisise an artists work if they are willing to explain they're point.

i dont understand the GD obsessed people. how would you know/care what billie joe has tattooed on his arm? 'all ages' could mean anything. what if MJ had that tattooed on his arm?

Im grateful for this response this discussion has received. please keep it alive its interesting to hear everyones view.

yes you do have a right to say what your opinion is on green day's work, but by saying stuff is shit seems like you are 'hating' on them. if you would have worded it differently you would maybe have gotten a different response from people

and also what does if MJ had that tattoo have to do with anything?

My line mommy was 56 years old. xD
She dragged her daughter along with and I saw her in the crowd fighting the mobs xD
She was this tiny thing being smushed by a bunch of bigger things.
