Y'know Gerard Way Shoot Me, I'm A Newbie Age: 27 Gender: Female Posts: 95 | Basically i did a project about Billie Joe when we had to choose a famous person who have influced/changed society. My teacher was all like 'oh, you have to explain how Billie Joe Armstrong influenced society, or else he'd just be another celebrity'. I got so bad cause Green Day is not just another band. People these days. They think Green Day are old hasbeens (sp?) and haven't done anything for society at all. I think Green Day is one of the most influential bands of this decade (AI), and the last decade for that matter (Dookie). What do you guys think? |
greenday6 Admin Age: - Gender: - Posts: 25077 | So what has Green Day done for society? |
Y'know Gerard Way Shoot Me, I'm A Newbie Age: 27 Gender: Female Posts: 95 | um... what has Green Day done for society? um... lots of stuff... you know... with American Idiot they, um... yeah... OK! SO I BASICALLY JUST FOUND THE PROJECT AN EXCUSE TO A PRESENTATION/POSTER/PAPER ABOUT GREEN DAY! IS THAT SO WRONG?!! |
Y'know Gerard Way Shoot Me, I'm A Newbie Age: 27 Gender: Female Posts: 95 | Whatsername.Gloria: ok. (thought about a convincing argument that Green Day has influenced society) Think about American Idiot. That song basically affected the whole world. it probably got a lot of people into Green Day (one of them me) and made a lot of people see how messed the US government is, and stuff. Ok, that's the best i can come up with |
Y'know Gerard Way Shoot Me, I'm A Newbie Age: 27 Gender: Female Posts: 95 | Whatsername.Gloria: Oh, and Dookie influenced a lot of bands like Sum 41, Good Charlotte, and Simple Plan. My friend told me that Green Day influenced Marianna's Trench, but i don't believe that. Avril Lavigne has obviously been influenced by them too. |
greenday6 Admin Age: - Gender: - Posts: 25077 | Whatsername.Gloria:No it didn't, the song didn't make people go out and revolt or anything, didn't really make people go out and do things except buy their albums. I'm all for coming up with reasons to use Green Day in school projects though, because I've done it a lot in the past. Is this for a history class? |
Y'know Gerard Way Shoot Me, I'm A Newbie Age: 27 Gender: Female Posts: 95 | greenday6: same thing. American idiot influenced society. and this isn't for history class. it's for english. my teacher came up with this project cause we were watching a movie about Gandhi. just realized i said 'basically' a lot in my other posts |
Batman. Falling In Love With The Board Age: 27 Gender: Female Posts: 7651 | Whatsername.Gloria: I can't really think of them having a major impact on society but it did make people think about the world they were living in, and question things that otherwise wouldn't have been recognized. Like the means of the government. |
Y'know Gerard Way Shoot Me, I'm A Newbie Age: 27 Gender: Female Posts: 95 | ^ well my teacher never said they had to have a MAJOR impact on the world, they just had to influence it in one way or another. and she didn't really say anything after my presentation. i think that was partially cause i made up a load of crap saying how they influenced the world. and if would have been hypocritical if she said i couldn't do Green Day cause two girls in my class did Miley Cyrus and she didn't say anything. im actually kinda surprised i got away with doing Green Day for my project. my teacher is stupider than i thought. |
Stay_Brutal! Geek Age: 30 Gender: Female Posts: 171 | Green Day has definitely influenced society. Whether it made people realize how fucked up the government is, Made people more aware of the envoronment and how to protect it (With NRDC), Or helped people discover who they are as a person. All of that has influenced society in a really possitive way. I mean seriously if you dont think Green Day has influenced society than you dont really pay much attention to what they are all about. |
Y'know Gerard Way Shoot Me, I'm A Newbie Age: 27 Gender: Female Posts: 95 | Eastbaybound: totally agreed with what you said... Green Day has influenced me and helped me find my punk side and to stop listening to the crap on the radio. |
Stay_Brutal! Geek Age: 30 Gender: Female Posts: 171 | Whatsername.Gloria: Yeah they have influenced me in so many ways. And seriously nearly everyone on this site has been influenced by them in some way or another. Have you already wrote that essay thing? I did an essay on them once. It was fun to do. XD |
Y'know Gerard Way Shoot Me, I'm A Newbie Age: 27 Gender: Female Posts: 95 | ^ yeah, i've already written the paper. i've presented too. my whole class hated my presentation cause they're all sick and tired of hearing me talk about Green Day and how obsessed i am. |
Sherlock Holmes Addict Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 10375 | greenday6: Hmmmmm..... I fail to see how they've helped the unemployment rate or tax rises. |
Stay_Brutal! Geek Age: 30 Gender: Female Posts: 171 | Sherlock Holmes: Doesnt mean that they havent influenced society tho. I mean a band isnt going to be able to help the unemployment rate. Politicans cant even find a way to help it. Does that mean that Green Day didnt influence society? Not really. Some things are just out of their reach. |
Sherlock Holmes Addict Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 10375 | Eastbaybound: What I mean is that when I look around I can't see there influence, anywhere (not counting anything to do with music because yes, there influence is there). |
Y'know Gerard Way Shoot Me, I'm A Newbie Age: 27 Gender: Female Posts: 95 | ^ -? not counting music? well there's no doubt they have influenced society and they way they perceive punk rock during the dookie and american idiot era. during those two periods, they were looked at in society's perspective as punk rock's 'spokesmen'. i just finished reading 'nobody likes you: inside the turbulent life, times and music of Green Day'. very good book. |
Stay_Brutal! Geek Age: 30 Gender: Female Posts: 171 | Whatsername.Gloria: My favorite Green Day book!! XD |
