 | December 1st, 2005 at 02:13am My dad said he'd get me a bass for Christmas so I can... y'know. Learn it. O.O
So, does anyone know what a good first bass would be? Must be affordable...
Oh - and my mom insists that I need to learn guitar before I learn bass, that isn't true, is it? |

but I don't think you have to learn it first..I'm not sure tho. |

 | December 1st, 2005 at 01:59pm i have been playing guitar for... three years now.
i only started playing bass in june, and ive not had any leassons.
playing guitar first gives you a better background to bass, like if you are writing bass lines, knowing you chords help A LOT.
yeah, learn guitar first. and also, guitar is less painful
but if you really wana buy a bass, to start off with, i know theyre crap, but really, in case u dont like it, go for something cheap, maybe a stagg or somthing. |

 | December 1st, 2005 at 05:31pm I'm learning to play bass, at school.
I didn't play guitar though, so I'm assuming you don't have to.
I use a cheap-o Yamaha. I think Yamahas are better if you have smaller fingers, it makes it easier to reach the frets and everything, 'cause the neck isn't as wide,
My teacher says they only cost $200 [in Canadian] or something like that.
It doesn't sound that bad either. |

Now, if you want something better you might keep longer but still good for beginners, go for a squier. They're not majorly different in the price range |

 | December 1st, 2005 at 10:19pm My first bass was a Fullerton and it was only, like, $129 or somethin' around there. Just shop around and see what you like in your price range, that's what I did. |

don't be too picky with a first bass, just get a good amp
the only thing you really need to make sure about with a first bass is that the strings don't buzz
hell, I've got about a year or two of experience and I'm still playing a $30 instrument on a $300 amp |
