Tiredly lifting her head she peered towards the sky
Through the tiny square of daylight in the ceiling.
While she helplessly watched life passing her by
Crystal water from her soul rained down her cheek
In rainbow colored cascades of broken dreams.
Even though she smiled when he held her hand
There always had been a tiny trace of doubt.
But still she did constantly fail to understand
What the shadow eclipsing her joy sprung from,
Although all the pieces were long since collected.
Not even imagination ever stirred in her lonely jail
As she shifted to follow the only light in her life.
The chains holding her prison was as a long trail
Of lost hope closely entwined with all her mistakes,
Indifferently binding her to old promises of eternity.
The close embraces shared always brought her delight
Although they also awoken claustrophobic panic.
Inside her mind the conflict raged hidden, out of sight.
With all flashes of turmoil and tide waves of confusion
It is no wonder that she felt so torn up inside.
She tried to lift her broken wings but without success
And only daydreams managed to reach the window.
There wasn’t even enough faith to cause her distress
As she sighed and sunk back into the dark captivity,
Which was so domesticated and yet so frightening.
Nightmares painting pictures of sugarcoated hugs
Hunt her sleeping soul, imprisoned in a dungeon.
One by one time a tattered, aching feather tugs,
Depriving her of the freedom which she once
Traded for love’s restricting sweet demands. |
