The Haunting Memory Part I
By: Jessica Marie Harrison

I quickly turn away so he cannot see the tears that are burning in my eyes. My hands are trembling, my knees shake, I suddenly feel light headed and dizzy, my eyes can not bear to look up. Taking a step away from him, my legs refuse to work and as I fall to the ground, I give up fighting conscience. Then it crept in to my head the pain I had so long been avoiding; the night replays over and over in my head. The moonlit park that we were once walking in flashed before my eyes; I was living the horrid night again only this time I couldn’t escape it because it was a nightmare that wouldn’t end. Walking in the moonlight we were talking about nothing in particular when the wide beams of light came crashing our way, realizing it was a drunk driver that was coming at us he quickly pushed me out of the way. He did this just as the truck come crashing into him, sending his body flying into the air. I hear myself screaming his name, for now his limp body was motionless. With legs that fell like jelly I made my way to him and cradled his head in my lap. With his last ounce of strength his eyelids flickered open and squeezed my hand; that was it right there I knew he was dead but I didn’t want to admit it. The police and ambulance soon found me weeping over his dead body. The memory played over and over again then all of a sudden when his body was in the air everything was in slow motion and for the first time I heard him screamed three little words “I love you”. This was not something I had noticed until now. I can now hear voices around me, it’s my mom and a doctor; “Poor girl stepped away from the casket and just went into a coma of shock, she will however recover in a matter of hours and slowly gains back her strength.” I stir but don’t open my eyes until my mother is over me then I slowly sit up and look at my mom, she now looks old with worry wrinkles. I looked down at the silver bracelet he gave me, without a word I wept while my mom held me…………….
