Rough water colliding against the bluffs –
Like mounting a steed for the first time.
Silver spurs stick into the ebony fur;
A mane of braids
Tangles of children’s stories
Knots of sullen laughter
Tales untold and forgotten
A bridle piercing the tongue
Hooves that have traced every bank
And curve and groove
And then back.
Eyelashes the length of a baton,
Multi-colored ribbon dancing
Under the western sky.
A breeze desires, a flickering
Fluorescent turned to smoke.
Pop-up tents and whiskey slurs,
He’s a cowboy alright:
Yes, siree.
A mighty fine cowboy.

I don’t like the last three lines. In my opinion they stick out too much (and not in a good way). But of course it’s still an amazing poem.

I love that very much. The poem gave me a picture in my head and it is definitely a good thing when people can do that. Unlike the blobs of words that we sometimes find in other poets here.
