I lay on my bed and I mutter and pretend to pray
And yet I don't believe a word
My belief is my release, the more I pretend
The easier it becomes.
Thoughts and memories twirl before my eyes
Like fluttering ribbons in the warm evening air
Some old and tattered and some new
And cast a shimmering light across my room
I close my eyes and I hear your voice
Even though I can't listen to what you say
It's impossible and yet probable
I can hear you, you're millions of miles away
In the humid air of today, I smothered myself
In cold anxiety of your demise
This vexing vixen, barely awake
And barely asleep
Just drifting in subconsiousness
And the damp summer breeze.

Lovely use of assonance throughout the whole poem. It was great. Very Happy

It's when you use the same vowel sound; it gives a similar effect to rhyming. Ex:

Asleep has the same "e" sound as breeze.

...So I'm guessing it was unintentional, then? Laughing It sounded good either way.
