Enveloped in a bland blue nightgown,
not even my own, not even my size,
it billows out like a scruffy wedding dress.
The raindrops, those little lemmings
jump gleefully from their cosy cotton clouds
and splatter with a crash to the excutution table
known as sheer tar and concrete.
I sit patiently in the stiff steel coloured stool,
the second hand of the clock on the medicinal wall
never moves. Not while you look at it. It waits,
one glace away and it races space itself around
that racetrack, the 600m.
The robotic tin voice scrapes at my nerves
as she screeches my name. I stand automatically,
like a soldier in court marshall. I could almost hear
the dangerous drumming for a dishonourable discharge.
They lead me away to where the sun can't hit my
pasty putrid skin, where I can't feel the eyes of
student doctors noting everything about my virgin
behaviour.
I sit in the tall chair as they strap the bleeping
and whirring noises to my skull. I bite down hard
and I cannot see. A purring of electrons flow across
my mind. They purr and purr and purr until they
finally find the cat's cream. Then silence.
I blink open my eyes, mist. A beautiful mist
around my room. I am contented and I never
want to leave. I never want to leave my cell
in Belsize. |
