Peppered Journeys

My attempt at returning to fantasy babbles, and my poem for this fortnights writers circle.


Faerie tales are rarely the pure, simplistic fables
read from children’s story books. She's a lullaby
butterfly in feline form, and he's a delicate gypsy
hybrid; written into the navy sky and stars like

lighthouses. They're sailors trying to catch snowflakes
like dust from a celestial ocean, ravaged with sea
sickness and diseased in the bitter midnight air.
Only below deck can they curl up like moths in trees

of emerald blossom, and juxtapose their lips until
breathing patterns become synchronous. Such deviant
simplicity guards against black magic; the temptations
to drown exotic lungs in peppered waters. Incantations

cast into an astrophysical compass will guide them
Northbound, and lead them through valleys of the darkest
hexes. Sometimes you can only get to your destination
once you've endured rough, contemptuous journeys. Wish.

Your vocabulary is stuff of spell books and myth, y'know that?

Your wording couldn't get any more beautiful, seriously. It's amazing. And you always manage to be so linear with your poetry; sometimes mine gets all jumbled and off track. You're amazing.

The words and the flow and he imagery and metaphors... wow.

The beginning, middle, and end are all equally powerful and spellbounding.
