Protest the Hero. Falling In Love With The Board
 Age: 32 Gender: Male Posts: 6048 | November 13th, 2006 at 08:11pm I did a search and couldn't find anything.
I just finished the book minutes ago and I thought it was brilliant. I'm no good at summaries, so here's what's on the back of the book.
Jonas's world is perfect. Everything is under control. There is no war or fear or pain. There are no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the Community.
When Jonas turns twelve he is singled out to receive special training from the Giver. The Giver alone holds the memories of the true pain and pleasure of life. Now it's time for Jonas to receive the truth. There is no turning back.
It's by Lois Lowry, so if you like her books, you'll love this one. The book is rather confusing at times, but it has an amazing story. |

It's very good, although the ending was a bit...sudden, I wouldn't change it though.
Amazing concept to it. |

I wish we found out what happened. Actually we do.. I forget what it's called, the sequel to Gathering Blue but it mentions Jonas. But meh. Anyways, I think that book is amazing. It was emotional when he had to relive all the memories. |

Age: 29 Gender: Female Posts: 621 | November 25th, 2006 at 01:30pm Yep, I read it as a school book. It has some truly interesting concepts about the supposed normal way of living and breaking the status quo, which is also seen in the book the Zahir, which I recommend you read. It was a bit underneath my level of reading (trying not to sound too snotty here so don't go all funny on me) but I enjoyed it all the same.
The downside of reading it as a school book was that we analysed every tiny nook and cranny of that godamn book that it kinda got on my nerves.
Anyway, I like it. |

Hated it.
In fact, it wasn't the story as much as it was the author. The only book by Lois Lowry I ever enjoyed reading was Number the Stars. |
