I've been playing silly buggers with free verse again. Very Happy Enjoy.

To honour my sensitive affections, I promised to
send you owls. Not doves or delicate little songbirds –
I would send you owls for they’ve always been the
creature of choice when sending sealed envelopes.

I wouldn’t have your love letters delivered any other
way. Stars for stamps, your address inked with liquid
pearl. I gave you your first atop the railway bridge;
kinetic light streaming beneath our intertwining feet.

Somehow, you never made it home that night –
you instead found yourself sleeping on the west coast
of my mattress; your hair like razored cocoa bleeding
against the sheets. You were sweet like chocolate.

Under piercing moonlight, your butterfly wings
blossomed from your shoulder blades, proclaiming
patterns fit for abstract photography. Just set
your aperture, watch your shutter speed, and fly.

Ellen! You know it's absolutely amazing.

Bloody hell. How fantastic? That's just insanely powerful. The imagery use is always so flawless.

I'm sorry this comment is crap but I'm at a loss for words.

I'm afraid I can't pull you any critiqué out today; you've blown me away completely.

I love how it's very narrative-like and sweet. I can actually picture the character of the narrator, which not many poems allow me to do.

Also, I thought the ending was particularly excellent and amazingly thought out. The camera metaphor was unbelievable and just the structure of that whole line makes me want to dance rather like this: Shake

I think this might actually be one of my favourite poems from you, maybe just because it's slightly different from what you normally write but retains its lustrous quality.

You are absolutely wonderful and inspiring.

Thank you so much. Your comments make me do this... Very Happy a lot. I wrote it as something that a character in a story I'm writing would give to his girlfriend. I wanted to help develop the character in my own mind.

Wow. I loved the owl bit. That was an insanely unique idea on a way of communication that's been known about for... a long time. (How ever long it is)

The ending stanza was particulary my favorite- the camera metaphor was just brilliant. Good job Very Happy
