What a lovely, lovely
Pleasant surprise when
The northeast monsoon
Torrents down in the
Heat of the Indian summer.
There’s no other delight
As that I find to see
The miniature palms
Blowing this way and that,
This way and that with the wind.
And then the perverse euphoria
To feel the rain blown in
My balcony, tickling my arms
And controlling my giggle
When a terrible thunder booms.
What makes the rain so beautiful?
Reveling in the chills
Of a sudden storm, I flash
My teeth as lightning
Flashes at me. I love
Not being able to see
For the raindrops
Obscuring the world for miles.
On impulse, I wish
To let my hair fall below
My shoulders, to run down
Six floors and dance spasmodically
Under the clouds.
What utter nonsense.
This is not a movie.
No, real life is much prettier
And wet is much wetter. But
When the howls become a drizzle
I close my eyes and think of
Merely minutes ago.
How wonderful they were.
I really couldn't think of a better title. |
