I turned my gaze downward,
only to find hundreds of
writhing
squirming
worms.
They were strewn across the pavement,
on driveways,
on sidewalks.
I meandered my way around these worms,
wondering where they all came from,
and why on this particular day,
so many were out.
I kept thinking of those worms,
wondering where they came from,
and if they reached their destination,
wherever worms go.
That afternoon, walking home from my bus stop,
I turned my gaze downward,
only to find hundreds of
lifeless
dead
worms.
