Slow traffic;
a vehicle induced slow jazz.
Inching forward to the rhythm of stalling engines,
we are directed by green red strobe lights and
fueled by hackled white collars.
Striped tar leads to the root of the mystery,
the gramophone, the orchestrator;
man or man-made instigator.
We hold our breaths as we approach the
elusive conductor,
meters ticking their constancy assuring surety.
Craned necks and slack-jawed curiosity
punctuate the metal symmetry.

Conductor exposed:

A quadruple man team, a weighty cabby.
Four counts of faded red dye, black shirts,
tight pants and slippers,
single count of bald-headed tension,
retribution, and contrition.
Tell tale wet puddle on the ground,
shattered glass, sneaky cop man presence.

I was jarred by the rawness of the end, the simplicity of the
man and man-made instigator.
Stripped down by traffic's music, bullied by dancers' eyes,
made insignificant by the presence of fear, men become
boys and boys become nothing,

both fading into small print footnotes at the end of the score.

I haven't read your work for a while (probably because I'm never around myself...), but this is exactly why I missed it; I love how you play with ordinary images and trun them into something so intelligent and conceptual.
