[I'm hoping I'm allowed to post this...if not, all apologies. Argh, this is why I never start new topics.]

But anyway. My parents recently informed me that they were most likely getting me a gee-tar for Christmas, and I'm apparently choosing what basic kind...like, acoustic/electric/etc.

HOWEVER. I have no idea what kind would be best. I'd pretty much kill for either an acoustic OR electric; I love both of the sounds. But I'm just going to get it to learn from and maybe just kinda play around until I can get what I really want--a bass. So it's going to be cheap--like, under $200, probably--but I don't want it to be a complete piece of shit either.

My friend says there's a kind that you can play either acoustic or electric, but she doesn't know what it is.

So basically...first guitar, cheap, acoustic vs. electric....help?

I've never played an electro-acoustic guitar, but seeing as how they don't have the same wiring and pickups and stuff, I really doubt they would sound much like a proper electric guitar.

I'd start with an acoustic. It'll build up strength in your fingers, which you'll need if you're planning on switching to bass. Plus, if you ever decide to pick up an electric guitar, it'll feel fantastically smooth and easy.

For under $200 you can't really gte much int he way of Acoustic.
And if you wanna play bass you should go straight to bass because if your gonna spend money on a guitar you can buy a bass.
