So the lexicon website decided to try and publish an encloypedia of the wizardry world to basically cash in on Jk rowlings work. You could argue that putting such a book together merits achievement but not when really all you are doing is copying the idea's of someone else and like jk said its not even anylising the world, just viewing it.

Yes she's a billionaire so what is it to her if someone makes a few million on her back. Well its the principle the Lexicon has not worked for it and its a well known fact that JK herself was planning an encloypedia. They are completely out of line in doing this, if their successfull (doubtful) then it leaves more vulnerable new writers open to be plagarised.

idk so i read on perez (lol) that the judge might be on lexicons side and that he said something about the books being confusing and complex and that lexicon's book might help.
also read that lexicon person ~sobbed~ on the stand and jk teared up when it was her time on the stand

i am on jk's side though, it is well known fact that she was putting together a massive hp encyclopedia and lexicons is just a rip, really.

this sucks. not because they ripped off jk, but they ripped off in general and they're taking away lots of money from charity for themselves .

Actually, I've read some more stuff about this and I'm kinda siding with lexicon here.

With Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy, a woman wrote a definitive guide/encyclopedia about that, which Pullman has since declared as his own reference guide when he wants to look something up about his own books. I'm sure there's stuff like this for LOTR aswell.

If this is in the same manner as that, then Rowling really hasn't got a leg to stand on. The HP books are just as confusing as the HDM and LOTR books at times - and if someone wants to do this, then they can. Its like those "...for dummies" books that some company makes - just a general guide to the books that will probably make more people buy/read the other ones in the future because they're able to understand them.

The judge has urged J.K. Rowling to settle the matter out of courst due to unchartered areas of the law which the case was deemed too complex for. I think she will probably follow this advice.

I feel sorry for the die hard fan who really admire's J.K. but I do find it tactless to be making a profit from her work. It's not exactly plagarising, I'll grant it that, but it's obviously without her permision to use her material to composite the book. I'm on J.K.'s side, because I think that he's doing it simply to make money since a web version of an encyclopedia could easily be done, but he specifically chose to market it and they are her creations so I think she should at least give permission for it to be legitamite.

Also, J.K. said she wanted to publish an encyclopedia herself and maybe she's worried that this previous one would undermine her own attempt to do the same thing.
