you forgot saving the world from evil robots.....

you make it sound like ALL the teen movies with individualistic kids are about kids who are either with child or under house arrest. States Evidence has individualistic characters and neither event happens in that movie. It's also an indie film, but that's beside the point.

No, I just wish that Hollywood would show different sides to teens more often, rather than the one side that's "good kids" and the other side that's "bad kids". I don't think all movies are like that, not at all. Many movies show some really cool teens, for sure.

Let's look at popular music.
You know, like the rap and pop, top 40 [or 20?]

What does at least half of it sing about?

- Having money, spending it, and keeping it to yourself
- Drinking
- Being violent and disrespectful to people

Many people listen to this, and like it. They take the music's word.
At least in my state, many people are influenced by this and act mean, disrepectful, spoiled, and very ignorant.

yes, i do think that the media does have a lot of infulence over youth

but i also think that the youth allow themselves to be influenced(sometimes)

but for the most part yes.

mass media tries to manipulate today's society into what they think it should be.

I'd just like to say that top 40 songs where you're from aren't exactly universal.

I found that to be true five to ten years ago, but I think it's changing much for the better in terms of world music. I think the world music scene is a lot cleaner now and definately more diverse. Occasionally a few more 'vulgar' songs will get through, but not as often as before. There's been a recent revival in culturalism, especially where I'm from, so the popular music bands here respect tradition more a promote local culture. I find this true for a lot of Asian and European countries nowadays. Also, I hear in Mexico, there is less influence from the mainstream American popular music too.

yeah, I was focusing on most of america, I didn't really think about the rest of the world.

I see.

But, I was reading Scar Tissue [autobiography of the singer for RHCP], and what is taking place right now is that the year is 94 or 95, and they're making a music video for the song Aeroplane which has girls in full sequin body suits, and they're showing their assses [not bare] and just showing off their body
But it almost didn't get on because they thought it was too extreme
Even though the visual didn't have much meaning, the song does.

Now, theres 'Superman dat hoooo!'
I mean, people like this stuff. At least in my area. They love american pop and hip hop music.

I'm not sure about other areas, but that's how it is here.
And mostly everywhere else that is full of rich stuck up people

I think it can be good and bad.
I mean there is good role models out there like say Mr T.
And there is also bad ones like Paris Hilton.
No explanation needed.

Most people would be 50/50 on this one.

Well, if I didn't do film studies and therefore be taught how films are put together and whatnot.. I probably wouldn't have looked any further into any Michael Moore films and would've accepted what he says in them.

Honestly, I think the media corrupts everyone, not just children. We all just sit in front of the tv, or read a newspaper, and believe whatever we are hearing or reading. I know not EVERYONE does this, but the majority of the population do.
