To be successful musician i believe you have to be open to all genres of music.

Being open is giving everything a fair chance.
I was half-joking, half-serious. I just don't enjoy classic rock. It doesn't mean I'm not open minded.

Matt Bellamy:
Muse - "Plug In Baby"
I love the guitar riff so, so much. o_o
Meg

In my opinion it is one of the best guitar riffs I've ever heard, their music is so complex and... Gah, idk!!! xD

Agreed. Very agreed.
Not just Plug In Baby, but many, many of their riffs are among the best I've ever heard.

Other cool Muse riffs:

Knights of Cydonia (ending), Hysteria, Exo-Politics, New Born, Stockholm Syndrome...

If you can get the hang of Stockholm Syndrome, you can really impress people. Crank up the distortion and just let rip. People would probably be more impressed if you can pull that off than if you can play the main riff to Master of Puppets by Metallica. Fucking insane riff.

The others just sound immensely cool, and aren't actually all that hard to master.

For some reason, I've never been able to get Stockholm Syndrome down properly. I mean, it's not the speed. I've got that down. But it just doesn't sound quite perfect... maybe I should record myself playing. That might help me figure it out.

But it's a brilliant riff, nonetheless.

Are you playing it in Drop D?

It is rather tricky, though. Lots of fast tapping and pull offs and stuff on the lowest string.

Yes.

I've talked to a couple of other guitar players, and they said the had the same problem. I understand how I'm supposed to play it, and I can do it, but... I dunno, the rhythm just seems ever so slightly off. Dno

Yeah I think its just ever so slightly off-beat. Maybe even in a different time signature to the standard.

I meant it more in a "damn that Bellamy for being an incredible musician and writing riffs that are terribly hard to copy perfectly" Coolio
He's brilliant all around, tbh.

Whiskey In The Jar. Fun to play, even though I like Thin Lizzy version more than Metallica.
The Passenger by Iggy Pop is also quite easy to start with.
By The Way by RHCP is also one of my favourite songs to play. It has that tricky part though but you can learn it quickly.
Then there's Knocking On Heaven's Door and Sweet Home Alabama by Guns n Roses.
I agree it's always good to know some classic rock songs. Cassie

Holiday is a fun song if you're able to manage the sorta complex chord changes at the beginning. Coolio
