Do British Crime Films glamourise the life of crime in the media?

Ok, so this is a topic I'm looking at for my Media Critical Research study, so it's important I get some insight!
I'm looking at the impression British Crime Films in particular give off in the media and as a research aspect, a web discussion works so =] Some basic questions...

What are your opinions of the effect British Crime Films have on the presentation of crime in the media?

Do you think British Crime films glorify or glamourise the life surrounding crime crime i.e in reference to organised crime groups, group attacks, robbery etc.

Do you think certain people aspire to the life of crime depicted in British Crime films?

Films such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Gangster No.1 and The Krays might have an effect on your answer

when you say British Crime Films the first thing that pops into my head is Shoot 'Em Up.
prolly not the exact kind of movie you're looking for, but yeah, the sort of do glamourise it, but i think its only for the purpose of entertainment...thats my opinion anyway.

Round where I live when 'This Is England' came out atlot of 'Skinhead' gangs started forming up again, it was hella scary to be out in town, even during the day.

Perhaps the rise of skinhead gangs started forming again for another reason? Who knows.

I can't speak for every british gangster film, but don't most end in tears for the gangster? I think they generally give the impression that it catches up with you in the end

british film makers make realist films to express what is happening at the time, like in the 1980's there was loads of anti thatcher films and they were really polictal, show issues such as unemployment and no home for young people.british realist films are targeted at an english audience.
i dont think it glamorises crime, i think they all have a really good meaning behind them

Guy Ritchie springs to mind, as a British auteur who tends to glamorize British violence/crime/gangs - this is about as helpful as I get, I never watch or know of any British crime films!
