What is is -

"Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine is a vaccine that prevents infection with certain species of human papillomavirus associated with the development of cervical cancer, genital warts, and some less common cancers." - Taken from wikipedia.

Right, now you might have heard about the 14 year old girl who apparently died from this vaccine recently. What I really want to know is with all the apparent and hype about the girls death are you still prepared to have the vaccine??

Does it make you question the health experts, or do you just not have any concerns??

Should it still be administrated??

(By the way I had mine the other day, and the only side affect that I presented was a bruise on my arm)

Some girls at my school have straight up refused to have it and may go on to try and sue to school - is it all because of the media hype or not??

ahh. well. i have not had mine done because i want to wait for a while, see if more info comes out about it. personal choice, yes?

many of my friends have had it and they are fine. but i have been personally attacked for deciding not to have it haha. i mean, i have no issues with those who have had it, but it's personally just not for me at this moment in time.

yeah, i realise i will have to pay for it if i do want it, but i am willing to do so, so i really don't see why i should be verbally attacked for not wanting it.

yeah, it's totally because of media hype, just look at swine flu hahaha.

I got mine. It wasn't bad and I think it's a good idea. All young girls should get it.

I have had mine, and I had no serious side-effects. Just the normal vaccine-related ones.

It never occured to me that it would be a bad idea. Call me naïve, but I thought to myself, "relatively recent vaccine or a chance of cancer?"

I hadn't hear about the little girl, though?

The thing about the girl dying is complete bullshit. The news reports clearly stated that she had a severe underlying health condition which was the cause of her death. She had a massive tumour in her heart and lungs which had been growing for some time. You can read about it here.

People always throw so much fear and paranoia into these things though and it genuinely makes me so angry because they're normally completely incorrect. Like in this case, there was no link whatsoever.

I've had all three with no problems, though a few of my friends felt dizzy and sick afterwards. I still think it's a good idea though, feeling a bit ill is a better option than cancer...

Oh, I had no choice.
Apparently my mom talked to the doctors about it before I went for my check up in August and the fucking nurse bitch came in with the shot and was like "Here's your Gardasil shot Very Happy". I was very tempted to punch her in the face.

The irony of this is the VERY minute I got home from getting the shot the news aired how girls were being paralyzed by the vaccination and developing Guillain-Barre syndrome and had to completely re-learn simple things such as brushing their teeth. Certainly not the thing to tell a paranoid person such as myself.

However, I had no adverse effects to the shot, in fact, it didn't even really hurt O_o. Only the initial part of the liquid going into my arm stung a bit, but that's it. This being the case, I am actually okay with getting the shots now. I get my next one sometime this month. For me it's a good idea to get it because the majority of people in the town I live in have HPV, my sister got it from her husband, so it doesn't even matter if you only sleep with one person in your life. So I figure, if I end up marrying someone from here (which is probably very unlikely since everyone here is bunch of pricks) then getting the shot is a good idea in off-chance that my spouse might end up having HPV. Plus, I mean, no one really expects to get raped, but it happens and getting the vaccine is a nice precaution to at least stay HPV free if you ever do fall victim to a rapist who happens to have one of the strains you were vaccinated for.

0.o,

Where do you live??
You're 16, your parents shouldn't even been asked about it.
I had to sort it out myself and now I have to go down to the hospital on my own if I ever need any test results.
Odd.

I'm having it - I watched a programme on the vaccine last year, and they interviewed a survivor of cervical cancer. She's alive, but she's had everything between her legs taken out and is incredibly miserable Don I'd rather have a bruise or a bit of a fever for a few days than that.

That's what I told the Nurse at my station because she was all "Do you still REALLY want it?".

Ah, I live in Alabama, unfortunately. Neutral
She's just paranoid and decided she wanted me to get the shot since my sister has HPV now and she got it from someone as simple as her husband.
Of course after people started getting Guillain Barre she decided to make it my choice to get the other two, but since I didn't have adverse effects then I am going to get them.
Yeah, I still have to drive down there to get them and such.

...Okay, but why be so harsh about the nurse?
It isn't like she randomly popped up and stabbed you with some HPV because she gets sadistic pleasure out of it, your mother clearly made the decision and the nurse was just doing her job.

I think she feels strongly against the nurse because she didn't clarify it with her.
I'd be annoyed too if it wasn't said to me and someone just came at me with a needle.

In that context I would take it unless they gave me a full explanation first.

I've had all three.

The only side-effect that I had was a big bruise and a little bit of swelling... and it stung when the liquid went in! Yuck.

I had my first yesterday. And I've heard about girls getting rashes and shit from it, but as someone else said, all it did to me was a sting when the liquid went in, and I was a bit dizzy for some hours after that.

I'm getting my second in December.
