Rozee. This Board Is My Home ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 30971 | I did a quick search and couldn't find anything, feel free to lock if there is one. So what are your views on women getting their tubes tied? and do you feel its wrong for young people to get it done? |
Matt Smith Admin ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 31134 ![]() ![]() | well, as a feminist, reproductive rights are obviously something i support. it's your uterus, do whatever you want with it. i'd actually consider it because i don't want children and as a permanent form of sterilisation with a low failure rate it would be ideal. on the other hand it's largely irreversible and there are reversible methods with higher success rates (like ius/implants) so i think you'd have to consider it pretty seriously along with the alternatives. insofar as young people getting it done, i don't really see an issue. i know marie stopes international require you to have counciling if you're under 25, which i think is fair, provided only neutral and non-judgmental advice is given. the 'well, you might regret it' argument doesn't really hold much significance for me. people make permanent non-reversible changes to their bodies all the time. i think a rational adult should have the right to make that choice - they might regret doing it, they might regret not doing it, but the choice is ultimately theirs and they can deal with the consequences. |
Plunkie. Geek ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 145 ![]() | I dont feel its wrong to do it. I am actually thinking about it, i am 18 years old I feel strongly about not having kids. But im gonna give myself a few years untill ill actually do it. I mean who knows i might change but the chances are slim, considering ive never liked kids, never been baby sitting, i just feel this annoying lump inside. plus no period so.. ive heard that the side effects are like you sweat alot. and other things i can't really remember |
Kurtni Admin ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 34289 ![]() ![]() | Matt Smith:Tubal ligation is actually very reversible, something like a 98% success rate. Or are you talking about a hysterectomy? I was under the impression that wasn't used as a birth control method because it's such heavy surgery. It's usually done because of cancer and other health aliments. |
