Posts: 4 | August 13th, 2011 at 07:31pm Okay, don't think i'm a huge dick just yet. I'm a huge fan of Green Day all the way through Warning. As cliche' as it is, I think American Idiot was a solid album but I wasn't much of a fan of it....with the angry youth cliche' and hit and miss at a bold political statement. Same goes for the newest album, in my taste. They totally lost me when '21 Guns' was on American Idol.
I actually saw them on their most recent tour and thought they played well but fucked around too much. The Ramones could play 30 songs in 10 minutes...The first water gun kid was cute but shitty kid musicains get old and after a while I just wanted Billie to slap the dick out of his mouth, get in the game and play some tunes. Ended up playing JAR which was pleasing.
I think they are intelligent and swingin' musicians but I just don't like their recent work too much and think their career moves have been silly.
I liked Foxboro Hot Tubs and The Network. Maybe it's time to take off with a new side project??? I dunno.
They need to prove to me at this point that they aren't just making music for 12 year old mall goths and still doing it for themselves. Maybe they are, but, I can't tell. |

 | August 13th, 2011 at 08:07pm To be honest, 21'st Century does seem like a step off their usual path and more commercial.. American Idiot I liked, it was political and they had the means and voice to make themselves heard and America needed that back then.. but that was 2004, now it's 2011.
Suppose, when you've been doing what you've been doing for pretty much your whole life, you either a) get tired of it or b) get too comfortable. And as artists they need the freedom to evolve..
But I guess you're right in the sense that they should put something out there that doesn't make what they're doing seem mostly commercial or mainstream and that they're still the good old Green Day that we know and love.. |
