Green Day Is A Boy With A Peculiar Name, chapter 1
"You'd better fucking stop, or I swear, I am going to turn around and strangle you," Erica hissed, as the boy behind her kept kicking the back of her chair.
Green Day giggled. "I'd like to see you try." He kicked her chair once more.
"Stop it, or I'll-"
"Ms. Davis!" barked their science teacher, Mr. Korm. "Is there a problem that you would like to share with the class? What about you, Mr. Day?"
"No," muttered Erica, mentally giving Green Day the finger. He always annoyed her like this, and one day she was going to make him stop, using as much physical force necessary. But not today.
"Okay," resumed Mr. Korm. "Well, as I was saying, protons... " In the middle of his sentence, the bell rang. "Don't forget kids, we have a quiz tomorrow!" he called out as everyone gathered up their things and filed out of the classroom.
Green Day walked behind Erica. He pulled a lock of her dark hair and said, "So, Stupid, I heard that your mom caught your dad cheating on her with a gorilla."
Erica yanked her hair back. "You are so stupid, Green. Why don't you go somewhere and find your dumb friends and leave me alone. Maybe later you can go on that website where you get all your stupid insults."
Green Day just laughed and walked off. Erica scowled as she shoved some of her books in her locker. Why was he always bothering her? It didn't make sense, and she hated it. It had been like this for years, through middle school, and now, during their first year of high school, it seemed to be getting worse. She shook her head as she got her lunch and slammed her locker with a loud clang. He usually left her alone at lunch, she hoped today would be the same.
Erica sat at her usual eating place, under her favorite tree. She liked the shade, but especially the isolation, where she could just eat and watch everyone. She watched the normal kids, sitting and eating and talking. She couldn't help but let her eyes wander to Green Day and his equally annoying friends, Mike Joe Armstrong and Tre Cool. They were standing by the chain-link fence and shoving each other. What a bunch of idiots, she thought to herself.
She had known Mike Joe and Tre just as long as Green Day, and they annoyed her too, but mostly just seemed to be following Green Day's lead. Tre was probably the weirdest. He had spiky brown hair and blue eyes, and was always laughing and running around and falling over. He always seemed to have something odd to say.
Erica had always noticed how Mike Joe seemed to look like he got messed up when he was born, like he was two people smashed together. He had messy dark hair with blond streaks, and one blue eye and one green eye. He had a few crooked teeth on the left side of his mouth, but the ones on the right side were perfectly straight. Erica had always thought he was really odd-looking, but had harbored a secret crush on him since sixth grade that she had never told anyone about; she didn't even really like admitting it to herself.
Finally the bell rang, and Erica gathered up her things, mentally preparing for the two classes she had to sit through until she got to go home.

"So have you guys seen that new video game yet?" Tre asked Mike Joe and Green Day at lunch.
"Yeah!" replied Mike Joe excitedly. "The one about the alien who has to go around and eat all those dogs?"
"Yeah!" agreed Tre. "Hey, Green, have you seen it yet?"
But Green Day wasn't listening. He was staring at the same person he always stared at, the one who was sitting under the tree a few feet away and eating her peanut butter sandwich. Green Day noted how the sun glinted off Erica's hair and blue eyes, making her look even more beautiful than usual.
"Green!" Tre poked him and interrupted his thoughts.
Green Day started. "What? Sorry, I... .wasn't paying attention."
Tre snorted. "Yeah, obviously. So what are you looking at?" Tre smushed his face next to Green Day's, trying to follow his eyes.
Mike Joe laughed. "Oooh, Erica again. Hey, Tre, I bet he liiiiikes her," he sang out.
"Shut up," Green Day muttered, shoving Mike Joe.
"Hey, don't push me." Mike Joe shoved him back.
"What about meeeeeeeee?" Tre whined, pushing Green Day so hard he fell over.
"You bastard!" Green Day laughed, getting up and pushing Tre. Soon they were all pushing each other and yelling insults.
Then the bell rang, and Green Day breathed a sigh of relief, glad that he changed the subject before his friends could find out how he felt about Erica.

"Finally," Erica sighed under her breath as her last class ended. She picked up her black and blue checked messenger bag and headed out the door, through the hallway, and outside. She paused a moment to breath in the fresh air, glad for a weekend. Two whole days to sit at home and do nothing, and especially time that she didn't have to worry about Green Day being everywhere she turned. She felt a rush of disappointment at not being able to see Mike Joe until Monday, but shoved it away with a shake of her head. She couldn't like one of the best friends of her enemy. It just wasn't possible.
She began the long walk home, but before she could walk more than four steps, she heard someone squeal out her name. Oh no, please don't be Karla, she begged inwardly, but turned to see a familiar blond head pushing her way through a group of kids to get to her.
"Hey!" Karla said brightly. "I'm sooooooo glad I caught up to you! How are you?"
"Fine," Erica said stiffly. Just go away, go away, she pleaded silently.
"So! Have you heard about the big dance next week?"
That stupid thing? I wouldn't go if you paid me, Erica thought. "Yeah, I've heard about it."
"You gonna go?"
Erica shook her head, trying not to laugh. What would give Karla the idea that she would ever even consider going to a stupid school function, she didn't know. "No, I don't think so."
"Oh." Karla's grin faded. "Okay. Well......are you sure?"
"Yes, Karla, I'm sure," Erica said impatiently.
"Oh, well.........see you tomorrow!" She skipped off.
Erica started her walk home again, glad to be rid of Karla, who seemed to think they were friends, even though Erica usually turned the other way when she saw her coming, and never said more than a few words to her. Erica suddenly got a mental image of Mike Joe Armstrong asking her to the dance, but she dismissed it. No! she thought. Stop. You have to stop thinking about him.
***
You have to stop thinking about her, Green Day told himself as he waited outside for his brother to pick him up. She obviously hates your guts. Just forget about her, and get on with your life. But I really like her. Maybe if I was nicer to her... .no. Don't think like that. Just forget her.
Green Day giggled. "I'd like to see you try." He kicked her chair once more.
"Stop it, or I'll-"
