It Started Out With Coffee At Starbucks, chapter 29

Two weeks later, Rachel was just beginning to show signs of pregnancy.

She had morning sickness, she had the oddest cravings for food, and she noticed her jeans weren't as loose anymore near her stomach.

On the morning of May 1st, Mike had a meeting with Billie, Tre and Rob in San Francisco, so once he had left for the day, she drove the kids to school, or preschool, and then drove herself to her doctor's office.

When Rachel got up to the third floor where Dr. Daniels office was, he was just arriving as well and saw her walk in.

"Well hello Rachel. I haven't seen you in a while."
"I've been keeping healthy."
"That's good. How's Mike? I heard he was in a car accident a few months ago?"
"He's great. They're getting ready to go back out on the road."
"I see. What can I do for you today?"
"Umm...do you have time to fit me in right now? I haven't been feeling well for a few days."
"Sure. I had a cancellation for right now so I can fit you in."
"Okay."

A few minutes later, Rachel was following Dr. Daniels down the hall to the first exam room.

When they entered, Rachel sat on the table and Dr. Daniels sat in a chair.

"Now you said you haven't been feeling well...what seems to be the matter?"

Dr. Daniels opened Rachel's chart and she said "I've been having morning sickness and food cravings. I...um...I took a pregnancy test two weeks ago and it was positive. And I'm a month late. I'm kinda hoping I'm not pregnant, just stressed out. But I need to find out if I'm really pregnant because I need to make the decision of if I want the baby or not."

"Want the baby or not? Wouldn't you love to have another child? Since the miscarriage and Sam is what? 3 now?"
"Yes. But there's circumstances that make me not want to have this child and um..."

Rachel struggled to think of an excuse, "One is my fear I'll miscarry again. I don't want to go through that depression and I don't want Mike to stop touring again to take care of my needs."

Dr. Daniels nodded then said "Well I can do a blood test and get back to you with the results tomorrow. Maybe the next."

"Okay."

A half an hour later, Rachel was making her way out of the doctor's office and she felt like she was walking on pins and needles.

The next morning, Rachel let Mike sleep in and she got the kids up, got them ready to go, made them breakfast, and them took them to school.

Just as she was getting home at 10, the phone began to ring.

She ran to the phone, quickly picked it up and said "Hello?"

"Hi."

"Adie?"

"Yeah. Hi."

"Hi."

Mike came down the stairs, looked at Rachel oddly, shook his head and walked into the kitchen.

"I can't stay mad any longer at you. It's just something about me. I need my best friend back. I want to put your's and Billie's thing behind us. I want to be friends again. I want to be able to talk to each other again."

"Really?"

"Yes really."

"How about we go to lunch together? Sound good? To like you know, catch up."

Adrienne laughed then said "Alright. Where though?"

"Rudy's? I know all of us are always there. But that way I can check up on things for Mike."

"Okay. How about around one?"

"Alright. Bye."

"Bye."

As Rachel placed the phone back down on the table and began to walk into the kitchen, the phone started to ring again.

She wasn't near the phone so, Mike picked it up.

"Hello?"

"Hi, this is Dr. Daniels' office calling. Would Rachel be around?"

"Yeah, just one second."

Mike handed the phone to Rachel and whispered "It's Dr. Daniels' receptionist."

Rachel took the phone from Mike and said, "Hello?"

"Hello Rachel."

"Hi Dr. Daniels."

"I decided to personally call you today to tell you you're pregnant. Now, I can fit you in two days from now, on Friday, in order to terminate the pregnancy, if that is still what you want."

Rachel walked into the hallway and said, "How far along am I?"

"Two and a half months."

Rachel sighed then said, "I want it terminated."

"Are you sure?"

Rachel thought for a moment then said, "I've got to be sure with this."

"Okay. I'll see you Friday morning at 11."

"Okay, thanks."

"You're welcome."

"Bye."

"Bye."

Rachel hung up the phone and brought it back into the kitchen.

As she got a bottle of water out of the fridge, Mike said "What was that all about?"

"I'm not feeling good. I haven't been for awhile. Dr. Daniels did a blood test yesterday and I'm going for the results on Friday."

"Oh, do you want me to come with you?"

"No, no. It's fine. Why don't you go check on Brittney while I'm there though. You know, she's what 5 and a half months now? Mike, you should really look out for her."

"I, uh, guess so."

Mike took a drink of his coffee then said "Well I'll drop you off but I can't promise to pick you up."

"I can drive myself. It's fine."

Rachel kissed Mike then said "I gotta go get ready, me and Adie are going for lunch at Rudy's."

"You are?"

"Mm hmm. It was her on the phone when you came downstairs. We made up."

"Good, I'm glad. And make sure everything is okay when you're there."

"I know."

Hours later, Rachel returned home after going to lunch and then shopping with Adrienne.

Two days later, it was Friday.

At 10, Rachel was just finishing her hair when Mike walked out of the steamy bathroom, with just a towel around his waist.

Rachel put the flat iron down as Mike wrapped his arms around her waist then kissed her neck. Rachel sighed then whispered "Mike..."

He turned her around in his arms and gently kissed her.

As they were kissing, one of Mike's hands made their way to the bottom of Rachel's t-shirt, well one of his she was wearing, then as he began to pull it up, she jumped and pulled back, ending their kiss.

"What are you doing?"

"Trying to show my wife some love."

Mike pulled Rachel back into his arms then said, "What's up with you? You haven't been yourself for a few days."

"I'm just nervous about the results. You know, anything could be wrong. I'm kind of scared cause of my dad and everything."

"Aww, babe. It'll be okay. You probably just have some type of the flu."

"Yeah, maybe." Rachel nodded then said, "I gotta finish getting ready, I have to leave soon."

"Okay."

Mike let Rachel go and she walked into her closet.

Fifteen minutes later, Rachel emerged from her closet, now dressed in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt.

She kissed Mike and said, "I'll see you later. Don't do anything with Britt now."

Mike looked at Rachel as she laughed, then he said, "Don't even joke."

"Sorry baby."

Rachel walked out of their bedroom and downstairs, and then she got her purse and car keys.

As she was walking out the front door, she pulled her cell phone out of her purse and dialed Billie's cell phone number.

As she pressed send, she got into her Lexus. Just as she put the key in the ignition, he answered with a hello.

"Billie, it's me."

"Rach?"

"Yeah."

"What's up?"

Rachel sighed then said as she pulled the car out of the driveway, "I need to tell you something but, um, oh god Billie, I'm pregnant."

Billie's end was silent for a few seconds then he said "Pregnant? As in with a baby? Growing inside of you?"

"Yes Billie. That kind of pregnant."

"Is it mine?"

"Well, me and Mike have done it three times since he came home. You do the math. Oh, and not to mention I'm two and a half months along. And the second and third times with Mike were both last night."

Rachel stopped at a red light and said, "You have nothing to worry about Billie Joe. There will not be an Armstrong child born to us. I'm having an abortion. In fact, I'm driving to the doctor's office right now, as we speak."

"What? Why?"

"Because I'm married to Mike. And you're married to Adrienne. I've caused enough between you two already. For the sake of our marriages, I'm having the pregnancy terminated."

"Don't I get some say in this?"

"No, if you wanted a say you would've used protection."

"I did most of the time."

"Well, once when you didn't I got knocked up."

"Don't say it like that. Please don't say it like that."

Rachel's eyes began to water then she said, "Billie, there's no other way to say it. Mike is going to kill me when he finds out, which I know he will, cause that's just my bad luck. And, I can't exactly lie and say it's Mike's baby. I'm starting to show, and the baby could end up having black hair and or, green eyes. Or both even."

"Rachel, can't we just talk this over between each other. I'm at Adeline right now. Come down and we'll talk."

"My doctor's appointment is at 11. It's 10:50 now. Billie, there won't be any talking because you'll find a way to talk me out of it. God forbid, if you and Adie had never worked it out and you two were seperated, I'd keep the baby. I loved you Billie Joe. Before Mike even came into my life, and long after. I still had feelings for you when you broke my heart in March. I still have feelings now."

Rachel pulled her car into the doctor's office parking lot and then Billie said

"Rachel, if I knew that you felt that way..."

"Don't. Don't say anything, okay? I have to go, I'm at the doctors."

"Rach-"

Rachel pressed the end button and closed the cell phone.

She pulled into a parking spot, wiped the tears from her cheeks and eyes, turned the Lexus off, got out, and made her way inside.

An hour later, Rachel arrived home and Mike wasn't home.

She went upstairs to their bedroom, sat on the bed, and began to cry.

As she pulled a few tissues out of the box on her nightstand, Rachel whispered "What have I done?"

About an hour later, Rachel was still sitting on the bed crying, and watching something on tv, when she heard the front door close and then she heard footsteps coming up the stairs.

Within seconds, Mike appeared in the doorway and he saw Rachel on the bed.

He walked over to her, sat on the bed in front of her, and pulled her into his arms, making her sit in his lap. Mike rocked Rachel back and forth as she cried, with her arms wrapped around his waist, then he whispered in her ear "Babe, what's wrong?"

Rachel gasped for air and said, "I can't tell you. You'd leave me. You'd hate me forever."

"Shhh...I won't I promise. Just please tell me Rach, what's wrong?"

Rachel looked into his eyes, wiped away her tears with the back of her hand then said, "I'm pregnant. With Billie's baby. But...but...oh god...I don't want to have this baby."

Mike held her close to his chest, then said, "Rachel, just take a few breaths and calm down."

"I was going to have an abortion. That's where I went today. I'm not sick. I'm pregnant and I don't want to have this baby because you now know it's not yours. I'm scared for our marriage, for Billie and Adie's too. I know, that this baby could tear you and your best friend apart. I didn't want to ruin Green Day."

"Oh Rach, babe, don't ever feel like you'll do that. Nothing could pull the three of us apart."

"But what if this could?"

"Then that's something we'll get over."

The two were silent for a few seconds then Mike said, "Does Billie know?"

Rachel nodded and said, "I called him just before I went into the doctor's. But he doesn't no I didn't go through with it."

"Then you've got to tell him."

Rachel shook her head, buried her face into Mike's neck then as he felt hot tears against his neck, Rachel said, "I can't. Me and Adie are finally friends again. This would definitely ruin our friendship forever."

"Then you've got to make a decision..."

Rachel looked up at Mike then he said "Do you want to keep this baby, raise it between our family and Billie's, or, do you want to not have this baby, and regret it?"

Rachel bit her lip, looked down into her lap and was quiet for a few seconds.

Then she raised her head and looked Mike straight in the eyes...
