Times change...people shouldn't, chapter 28

"Wh-what?" Brooke said shocked as he held her baby tighter and moved closer to Joey.
"I really do think it's best. Don't you Mr and Mrs. Armstrong?" her mother said ignoring her daughter and turning to Adrienne and Billie Joe.
"Fuck no!" Billie spat at her with a disgusted look.
"Billie." Adrienne scolded slightly. "What he means Mrs. Calliway is that, both Joey and Brooke have been through a lot to get Kali here. She is their baby, you can't just give up your baby as if it's a goddamn toy."
"They are only children Adrienne!! They cannot raise a baby!! Brooke was going to have a scholarship to the best dancing college in the United fucking States and your son ruined it for her! Now that she isn't pregnant I am going to put her into intensive training so that she can go and achieve what she was meant to. And raising some baby isn't what she was meant to do!"
"Stop it! all of you just stop it!" Joey shouted over all the voices and now over a sobbing Brooke.

An awkward penetrating silence overtook the room once Joey yelled and all that could be heard were Kali's coos and Brooke's sniffling.
"Um Mike." Billie said breaking the silence and clearing his throat. "You think you and Tre could take everyone into the backyard for a few minutes while we work this out?"
"Yeah sure." Mike said getting up and motioning for the rest to follow.
"Are you ok?" Joey said turning to his visibly upset girlfriend and rubbing her back. She nodded and kept her head hung and eyes on Kali.
"Brooke honey, I know this isn't what you wanted with your life. You even told me that before I left one day. Come on, just give her up hun it's for the best." Her mother's voice said, becoming sugary sweet.

"Shut up please just shut up." Brooke begged, placing her daughter into her carrier and then burring her own face in her hands, curling into Joey in the process.
"Brooke listen to me!" her mother said, stomping her foot before Billie cut her off.
"She doesn't want to listen to you And she shouldn't have to!! It's her baby not yours!"
"O so your taking their side in this?! Billie Joe, I thought a man like you would have more sense than that." her mother intervened, snapping her head to him.
"Shut the fuck up all of you!" Brooke finally said, coming out of Joey's arms.
"We made a mistake, we had sex, we now have a baby. I'm paying for it in full I don't need all of you making an issue out of this I love Kali, she's my daughter and I love Joey. Why can't you just leave us the hell alone?!"
Joey coxed her back down into the couch as the room once again fell silent and eyes pierced eyes. Brooke's mother of course, was the first one to talk.
"Either you get rid of her or you don't come home." she said viciously, before she got up and slammed the door behind her.

Brooke raised her heavy hand up her forehead and rested it in her palm with her eyes closed and a heavy sigh to follow.
"I'm sorry." she managed to choked out.
"For what honey?" Adrienne said reaching across and resting her hand on Brooke's knee.
"For my mother, she shouldn't have acted like that in your house."
"It's not your fault ok? You are going to keep your beautiful baby girl and stay here with us until we get your mother out of your house and everything is settled yeah?" Adi reassured with comfort in her voice.
Brooke nodded and smiled, giving Adrienne a big hug.
"I'm really tired Joe. You think I could crash on your bed for a little while?" she asked.
"Do you really have to ask?" he smiled, kissing her cheek lightly before she got up and dragged herself up the staircase.
"Billie why don't we go out with the rest of the guys?" Adi said outstretching her hand and leading them both off to the backyard, where the rest of Green Day and their children were.

Almost as soon as Brooke left, Kali started to fuss, and kick her legs in unhappiness as she scrunched her face and cried.
"Aww what's the matter? You don't like me?" Joey said, reaching down into the carrier and lifting the unpleasant infant into his arms.
She stared up at her father with her blue eyes in curiosity, as if she was trying to think real hard as to who he could possibly be. Finally she gave up and decided on sucking his finger instead.
"I'm not suppose to say it..but I'm really scared." Joey admitted to his week and half old daughter. "I just don't know what's gonna happen ya know? You weren't really expected.." he continued as he looked down at his one and only child, who resided happily in her father's arms. "But your mommy and me love you ok?..No matter what."

Kali's eyes had started to open and close sleepily since the start of her father's talk and were now completely closed, as her chest moved gently up and down with her breathing pattern.
Joey kissed her soft forehead gently before putting her back down in the carrier and rocking it softly.

"Brooke you look fine!" Joey insisted as her tied up his shoes and walked over to her by the mirror.
"This is my first day back in school since I left for maternity leave. I wanna look good " she insisted as she stood to her side and ran a hand over her flat stomach, poking it in the process.
"You do look good baby! Great even!" Joey said coming up behind her and wrapping her in his arms.
And she really did look good. She had gotten herself back into ballet with her private instructor and her body looked amazingly thin.
"You could even afford to gain some weight babe." he added, running his hands over hips, feeling the bones in the process.
"Thanks but no thanks." Brooke sighed, puling away from Joey and slinging her bag over her arm. "So are we still going to the party tonight?"
Joey nodded, following her downstairs and to the car. "But uh I heard Jinnie might be there..." he said drifting off uneasily.
Brooke bit her lip for a moment and thought "It's ok baby. Just stay close to me this time ok?"
"You got it." he said kissing her temple as they climbed into the car and sped off to school.

"That's the girl that had the baby"
"Why is she back?"
"God what a slut "
Those were the voices that echoed throughout the hallway all day at school as Brooke tried to get through her day.
"Baby I can't take it anymore!" she said grabbing Joey in the staircase and pulling him off to the side a little."Everyone is talking about me and about what a slut I am." she added, holding back tears.
"Who cares what they think babe."he said, wiping a stray tear that rolled down her cheek.
"I know I just.."
Joey cut her off and pressed his lips gently against her's "It's gunna be ok.." he smiled pulling away and hugging her.
Brooke nodded into his chest and jumped when the bell rang.
"We better go to class." she said breaking away and walking down the stairs.
Joey quickly reached out his hand and grabbed her arm, stopping her.
"Why don't we just go home. My mom and Dad went out with Kali today so no one is there." He smiled, mischievously.
"You want me to go home with you to do what got us in this whole mess to start with?" she giggled looking him square in the eye with a smug look on her face.
"Yeah basically." Joey smiled, "what do ya say?" he said, holing out his hand by the exit door.
Brooke smirked, cocking her head at him. She looked one way towards the classrooms, and the other at her eager boyfriend.
"I hate you." she laughed, taking his hand and running to the car.

"Ugh can't you stay clean?" Brooke mumbled to her 1 month old baby and she changed her bib for the 5th time that day.
It was march now and Brooke and her baby were still living with the Armstrongs. No one really even thought twice about the situation though, to Billie and Adi, she was already like their daughter-in-law and Joey certainly didn't mind having both his girlfriend and his daughter being with him.
"Are you going to be good for Uncle Jakob when Mommy and Daddy go out for Daddy's birthday tonight?" she said as she lifted the baby off the changing table and into her arms.

Kali cooed softly against her mother's chest and looked up at her lovingly. Brooke smiled, and kissed her infant's head before propping her up onto her shoulder, cradling her head in the process, and jogging down the stairs.
"You should really start to get ready." Joey said perking up from the DVD he was watching as Brooke walked into the living room.
"Try telling that to your daughter. She insists upon spilling everything on herself." Brooke sighed, handing the baby to him.
"Good girl." Joey praised to Kali as he rocked her slowly in his arms.
"So why don't you give the baby to Jay so we can get ready to go. Your party is going to start without you." Brooke said.
Joey nodded, walking into the lounge where Jakob was, giving him his niece.
"So what did you get me for my birthday?" Joey said eagerly as he and Brooke made their way to get changed.
"You'll have to wait and see." Brooke teased, slipping into Joey's room, closing the door behind them both.
"Don't tease me....you know it turns me on." he mumbled against her neck.
"And that's why im doing it." Broke giggled, kissing his lips quickly before grabbing her dress and leaving to put it on.

"Happy Birthday!" was all that was heard when Joey and Brooke entered the hall arm in arm.
Joey smiled, fakely as his friends came up to him shoving gifts, balloons, and other objects at him.
As Brooke moved through the crowd, she could hear the whispers about her, but tonight she didn't care. It had been a month since she drank or smoked anything and tonight was all about fun, and she wasn't going to let anyone get in the way of that.

Within an hour, both Joey and Brooke had a good amount of drinks in them and they were feeling pretty good.
The groups looked on as the two erotically danced with each other, both unaware of the fuss they were causing.
"I'm gunna go get some more shots. Want?" Joey said, dipping his mouth down to her ear to be heard.
Brooke shook her head and moved onto see one of her friends in a corner with a group of other people.
"Hey Mary." Brooke said tapping her shoulder to get her attention.
"Hey you!" Mary exclaimed, ripping the cigarette out from between her pursed lips and balancing it between her middle and index finger. "I want you to meet some people this is Beth, Jason, Samantha, and Josh."
Brooke smiled sweetly at them all, but it was Josh that caught her eye.

He was pretty average height, with pin straight black hair that covered his right eye slightly due to the side part. His eyes were light blue, like Kali's and he was wearing a black element shirt and ripped jeans. Josh was a total emo boy, but something about him fascinated Brooke.
"You're the one that had Joey's kid right?" he asked.
Brooke sighed, thinking he was going to rip on her like all the other's.
"Yeah...that was me." she said meekly.
"Well im really sorry for the shit you have got to go through for one mistake. If you wanna talk or something...im here." he smiled, warmly.
A goofy, childish grin smirk spread across Brooke's face as she nodded. "Thank you."
Mary raised her eyebrows at the others in the group before leading them off, leaving Brooke and Josh alone.
"So you know Joey?" Brooke asked, after she mentally kicked herself for asking such an obvious question.
'Of course he knows him, why else would he be here you idiot?! O no, why do I suddenly care what he thinks of me? O no no no I cannot fall for him..fuck.'
Brooke's mind raced for the rest of the conversation she had with him. They made small talk and got along really well, there was a spark they could both feel it, and that's what scared her.
