Billie's Forgotten Daughter, chapter 11
Billie took a breath before he entered room 219. He assumed that Alexis had already seen him walk up to the door. He wasn't sure what he was going to say, but he had to find out what she was up to. Billie opened the door and walked into the room and walked over to Adrienne. She was asleep. Billie brushed the hair out of her face and gave her a kiss on the forehead. He hadn't seen her awake since yesterday morning and kind of missed her in a sense. He snapped back to reality and decided to focus on the task at hand. He turned to Alexis. She began to stir.
"Dad?"
"Yes dear, I'm here."
Billie sat down on her bed.
"Why did you come back?" Alexis whispered.
"I'm your dad; I'm always going to be there for you."
Alexis smiled weakly, but Billie knew better.
"This bitch is quite the little actress," he thought.
"Is Mom okay?" Alexis asked.
"Yeah, she's fine, for now."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, she's been through a lot. The doctor said if what happened last night happened again, she might not be able to take it."
"You mean she'll...die?"
"Sadly, that's exactly what it means."
"I don't want her to die, Dad."
"I don't want her to die either."
Alexis sat up slowly and gave Billie a gentle hug.
"I'm I going to die?"
"No, you aren't going to die."
"Would you be sad if I died?"
"Alexis, you're my daughter. I love you so much that it would KILL me to know that my own daughter was dead."
She let go of him and laid back down.
"I love you, Dad."
"I love you, too."
He got up and headed for the door.
"Hey, I'm going to get something to eat. Want anything?"
"How about a turkey sandwich?"
"No problem."
Billie walked out the door. Alexis saw him pass by the window in front of her bed. She sat up and looked around.
"Looks like the coast is clear," Alexis thought.
She got up and went around to Adrienne's bed.
"So Mom, one more incident and you're gone for good?"
Alexis pulled out an IV that was in Adrienne's wrist and proceeded to touch the power switch on the oxygen machine.
"I always wanted to be Billie Joe's number one girl..."
Alexis flipped the switch to "off."
"And now, I always will be."
"Dad?"
"Yes dear, I'm here."
Billie sat down on her bed.
