"Relax, I've Got You.", chapter 1

"We're finally here!" I screamed out, all the people looked at me and I just blushed.

"Ugh, Billie Joe, it's your fault I'm in choir!" Mike whined as we got off of the hot, sticky bus.

"Dude, shut up, you should be thanking me, look at all these hot girls from different schools." Indeed, there were many schools in this choir competition. There was one that we had to worry about, Matthew Thomas High School. We were only second best compared to them.

We looked at them with hatred but there were two girls, a brunette and a blonde that was different then others. They were casual then the others; the others wore robes while they wore blue shirts with black pants and boots.

"Ok let's do our little 'routine'," the blonde said with exaggeration. The brunette nodded as the blonde put her hands down in an awkward fashion. The brunette put her hands on the blonde's and hoisted herself up. The blonde was strong enough so the brunette could be more comfortable. Soon enough, the brunette's legs were in the air, she was doing a handstand!

I looked at Mike as he looked at me and then back at them. I saw the brunette's arms shaking. "Relax, I've got you," the blonde smiled the brunette nodded and she relaxed and the blonde was doing most of the work.

"You ready?" the blonde asked, the brunette nodded uncertainly. "I told you, relax, ok? We've done this a thousand times," she said with a smile.

"Ok, I'm ready," the brunette whispered. The blonde nodded and removed her left hand from the brunette's and the brunette put her two hands into the blonde's one hand. The blonde spun around slowly as half the guys stared at them. The brunette looked at me and winked. I could feel my face get red.

I saw the blonde wink at someone close to me and I looked at Mike, his face was also getting red. "Birdie, I'm tired, stop," the brunette said. The blonde nodded and put her hand up so the brunette could get comfortable and swing down. The blonde wiped her imaginary sweat from her forehead and said, "Phew, glad that didn't go completely wrong!"

"Wow, they're amazing," I said. Mike nodded, agreeing with me. "Show choir," I heard a voice saying. I spun around and saw my choir teacher looking ahead, "they're in show choir and regular choir," she repeated. "Oh," I simply said.

I wanted to find them again; I jumped up since I was the shorter one, looking for them. Mike just pointed at some random place and said, "there they are." Mike trotted and I kind of ran to keep up. I saw them and poked the blonde one in the stomach, she yapped. "What the heck?" the brunette asked. The blonde spun around, almost hitting me with her hair, "what the heck was that for? Do I know you or something? Why did you just poke me?" she screamed.

Mike smirked as I cowered behind him. "Songbird, calm down! Get some coffee ok?" the brunette said. The blonde apparently named Songbird just nodded and walked inside the building, "I'll come with you," Mike called after her. Songbird turned around and nodded at Mike and he ran to her.

"I'm sorry about Songbird, she hasn't had her caffeine quite yet, in fact she hasn't had some in about 3 days so she's a little cranky," the brunette said.

"Don't worry about it you know, you should see Mike without coffee, one time he tied our other annoying friend to a chair with just duct tape, ropes, and baseball socks."

"Oh...OK."

"Is that her actually name?"

"Songbird? No, everyone calls her that because she eats and sings like a bird so we call her Songbird."

"What's you name?"

"Kirsten," she replied while walking away to Songbird.

I followed her to where she sat across from Songbird and Mike. Mike and Songbird had only one cup of coffee, I guess they were sharing. "You feeling better?" I asked, laughing. Songbird looked at me, sipped her coffee and nodded. "How do you drink that? It tastes like crap!" Kirsten screamed. Songbird slapped Kirsten's mouth shut lightly, "calm down Kirsty, your not the one drinking it so don't' worry about it." Kirsten just nodded and made a disgusted face as Mike took a sip also. Mike just laughed as Songbird finished off the coffee and threw it away.

"What kind of coffee was that? Your breaths smell funky," Kirsten asked.

"Black," Mike and Songbird replied at the same time. They looked at each other and blushed. "How about you Billie Joe?" Songbird said looking at me.

I looked at her, "what?" I asked.

"Do you like coffee?"

"I think it taste like crap," I replied. Kirsten laughed and clapped hands with me, "yes! Anti-coffee rocks!" I laughed also. Mike and Songbird looked at each other, then us and breathed in our faces. "Oh sick Mike!" I yelled out. "Ok, Songbird, your breath doesn't smell as bad as Mike's, kind of minty actually."

"Really?" Mike asked. I nodded. Then Mike did something very unexpected; he leaned over to Songbird and kissed her.

"Wow, I agree, it is minty," he said while licking his lips. Songbird, Kirsten, and I just stared at him, Songbird leaned in and kissed Mike and soon, they were all over each other, I was glad we were alone in a little room, because Songbird was lying on Mike and getting a little too close. Finally, Kirsten couldn't take it anymore, she yelled out, "Ok, I don't give a flip if you are dating, but stop being lovey-dovey by us!"

They looked at us like we were crazy. Songbird got up and practicing a song that I didn't know the words too. Kirsten was right; she sang like a bird, it was beautiful.

She sang to Kirsten and me and walked out the door and slammed it shut. "What's with her?" I asked. Kirsten just shook her head and sighed. "Her ex-boyfriend, Jack, he cheated on her and she sang him that exact same song in his answering machine when he begged for forgiveness," she said. Mike looked at the door, and back at me, his eyes were filled with hatred and sadness. "We need to go on!" Kirsten squealed. "Ok, um, I want to give you something for good luck," I said. She turned to me and I kissed her cheek. She smiled at me and kissed my cheek back and ran out the door.

"I'm watching from the curtain, I wanna see if Songbird is ok," Mike said, I nodded and we headed toward the curtain. The composer looked around for Songbird but couldn't find her. "Kirsten, you go find her now!" he ordered. Kirsten nodded but Mike was already running toward wherever he thought she was.

Mike's P.O.V.

Damn it Songbird, why do you have to be like this? I went into the girl's bathroom to be introduced to the sound of sobbing. I looked in every one of the stalls and at the last one was Songbird. "Songbird, Hun, are you ok?" She nodded and lifted her head. I gasped, she had one big hand mark on her cheek. I bent down on my knees and wiped her make up off. Her eyes were glassy and sad. I could feel my blood beginning to boil, "who did this?" I asked angrily. She whispered so quietly I could barely hear her.

"Jack."

"Is he here?"

"Yes, he smacked me for not coming back to him and left, I'm so scared Mike."

"SSSH, it's ok, it's ok, don't worry, I'm here."

"Will you protect me Mike?"

"Of course I will."

"Ok, I might want to go back out there."

"Good because your composer is having a heart attack without you." She laughed and shook her head, "he always does."

Billie and I watched the choir warm up. "They sound better then us just by warming up," Billie said. I laughed and nodded, he was right. One boy was getting me mad, he kept trying to grab Songbird's hand but she smacked it away. I snickered and Billie noticed too so he chuckled also. Kirsten was also being flirted with which she also smacked away. I almost bust out laughing; I could feel myself shaking with laughter.

The choir finished their songs and walked off the stage into the hallway. Billie and me made a run for it and saw Kirsten and Songbird. "You doing ok babe?" I asked Songbird, she nodded and hugged me. I chuckled and whispered, "relax, I've got you."
