Dawn To Dusk, chapter 9
"I'm sorry I had to be the bearer of bad news. I'm so sorry." Dr. Walker said in a sorrowful voice patting Gerard's shoulder. Gerard's face was blank, lifeless. His eyes were open wide, his mouth, an "O" shape, he was shocked. He had not the slightest clues to detect what he had just been told. "Um, if you want to see Jara, she's in room 421 straight down the hall to the right."
"Th-Thank you, Doctor Walker, I really appreciate your hard work."Gerard stuttered.
"Mhhmmm."Dr. Walker nodded.
Gerard staggered, still in shock and bewilderment at the recent news he heard, down the hall to room 421, Jara's room. Before entering, he took a deep gulp. He entered.
Jara sat, knees to her face with her arms draped around her. She had on a white tank top and white pajama bottoms the hospital gave her. Her dark black hair shagged over her eyes and face, the purple sheen reflecting from the light. The room was dim, the way Jara had asked the nurse politely for it to be, but was still quite bright just in case Jara got up to "look" around the room. Gerard gently closed the door behind him, his back pressed against the door. Jara's beautiful face made Gerard forget his worry and concern. The girl just sat there, not stirring, even making a sound, thinking.
"Hello, Jara." Gerard said in a near whisper.
"Hi," Jara said in the faintest voice.
Gerard took a seat at the end of the bed.
"Are you ok?" He continued.
"Doctors say I will be."
"That's good."
"Well, I suppose it's better than saying you're going to die."
"Jara, don't talk like that."
"Why not?" Jara asked.
"Because, the thought of losing you makes me pray everyday that you won't do something like you did." Gerard cried.
"Gerard, I'm sorry. I. . . I never really thought about how you felt. I feel horrible now." Jara began to cry. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm truly truly sorry."
"I heard about . . . ." He began.
"Yea," Jara turned her head.
"Wait, what's that?" Gerard asked, pointing to the side of Jara's face.
"Nothing!" She quickly turned back around.
What Gerard had seen on the side of Jara's face was a tiny bruise.
"No, what was that?" Gerard stood up and walked closer to Jara and sat next to her on the bed. Their fingers intwined in each other's.
Jara started to cry even more. She put her head into Gerard's chest and cried into him. He put his arm around her back and comforted her too.
"I'm sorry." She looked up at him saying, her face all red, her eyes all tear-stained. "I tried to stop. . " she gulped, "but . . . ." she took deep breaths, "he . wouldn't. . stop."
"Shhh. . . .it's okay. It'll all be alright."
