The One I Want, chapter 1
Tessa woke and yawned. Smiling to herself she climbed out of bed and dressed in her usual light blue jeans and black T-Shirt. Today her shirt read "Who the fuck is Tre Cool?" which was really funny because Tre was her favorite member of the band Green Day. Laughing she turned on her CD player and the sounds of King For a Day filled the room.
Normally Tessa wasn't in such a good mood, but today was her 17th birthday and she knew that her friends Jess, Lauren and Natalie had something BIG planned. She walked down stairs into the empty kitchen and grabbed herself some orange juice. She looked at the clock and sighed. It was only noon. That was way too early for Tessa to wake up, especially on a Saturday.
The phone rang and she jumped up to grab it. Checking the caller ID she saw that it was Jess, calling from her cell phone.
"Hello?"
"Jello!" she answered in her normal joking voice. It was a rare moment if you ever caught Jess in a bad mood.
"Hey Jess, sup?"
"Nothing. Hey, come out to the backyard, but DON'T go throught the garage."
"Why? '
"Because I said so!"
"Ok, ok. I'll be back there in a few seconds."
"Great, bye!"
"Bye!" Tessa hung up the phone and shook her head.
'Jess is so weird" she thought as she walked out the front door and around the house.
When she got to the backyard all her friends attacked her, laughing wildly. Natalie pulled Tessa away and her, Jess and Lauren smiled.
"You are going to love us forever once you see what we got you!" Lauren giggled.
"Oh, really, then what'd cha get me." she said, raising her left eyebrow slightly.
"First you have to promise not to scream, or pass out, or anything Teenieish." Natalie said sternly
"I promise I won't. Now tell me."
"We can't, we have to show you." Jess said and pushed the button for the automatic garage door opener.
The door slowly opened, and the beginning lines for "Happy Birthday" sounded... When the garage opened fully Tessa smiled and hugged each one of her friends as Green Day began to sing to her. She wanted to jump up and down like a little girl, but she was in the presence of greatness. She told herself to keep cool. When they finished singing, Billie, Mike and Tre walked over and shook Tessa's hand.
"Hey, so um Happy Birthday." Billie laughed and pointed to the refreshments table.
"We're going to get some drinks." Tessa nodded and turned to her friends.
"How did you guys manage this?" she asked, bewildered
"We all chipped in a little money. Everyone, even your mom!" Lauren said.
"But she HATES Green Day."
"Yea, but she knows you love them."
"Thanks guys." She hugged her friends once more as she watched Billie, Mike and Tre drink punch.
