Serendipity Girl, chapter 16
In the next few days a lawyer, a social worker and Jay's dad makes several visits to the house next door. Jay stopped going to school, he was too angry. Even Kad can't 'make him happy' no matter what she offers.
Joey got an idea that a whole bunch of us should take Jay out and pretend everything's like it used to be. So me, Kad and Lil are sitting on my front porch waiting for the guys.
"For fuck's sake I even offered him sex!" Kad exclaims.
"Wow, sex?" Lil chuckles.
"I wasn't actually planning to go through with it, but still, he turned it down." I can't help but laugh.
"Just you know, ease up, he'll come around he's just stressed out."
"Oh! Matty!" Lil exclaims jumping up from where she's sitting and runs up to the car that just stopped in front of my house. Mark and Luke come out of the car as well and walk up to where Kad and I are sitting.
"How's Jay?" Luke asks calmly.
"Angry, Joey and Jake are trying to convince him to come out with us now," Kad states.
"You sure they're still alive?" Mark jokes.
"They said if they didn't return in fifteen minutes to call the swat team."
Just then the front door of the house next door creaks open and Jay steps outside.
"How are you fuckers?" he laughs, like his old self.
"Fondle me!" Mark squeals as he runs up to the bass player. Mark practically tackles Jay in a bear hug.
"Dude." Jay laughs as Joey and Jakob step outside. "What movie are we going to see?"
"Jackass, the new generation," Matt says, nodding.
"Sweet!" Jakob exclaims.
Jakob, Jay, Kad and me go with Joey in his car and everyone else goes with Matt. Throughout the car ride Jakob is on his cell phone trying to convince Jenna to meet us at the movie theatre.
"Damnit," He mutters as he puts his phone away, "I hate her parents."
"Awe poor Jakey," Kad teases, "No back theatre action."
"I'm getting back theatre action, right?" Joey asks me in mock panic.
"Yes sweetie," I joke.
"Me too right?" Jay ask for the pure purpose to bug Jakob.
"Yes," Kad says rolling her eyes.
"Shut up all of you," Jakob pouts.
"Its okay Jake," I say slowly, "When I was fourteen I didn't even have a boyfriend. Your brother is like my second real boyfriend."
"Thank you Anna," Jakob says, sighing. "Joe your girlfriend's a loser!"
With that I reach into the backseat and start smacking Jakob's legs.
"Jakob you're dead!" I grunt.
"Yeah!" Joey adds in, "No one calls my girlfriend a loser and gets away with it."
"Ohh I'm shaking in my little space boots."
Jay and Kad are laughing hysterically as Joey pulls into the parking lot of the movie theatre. We pile out of the car and meet up with the others who are already waiting in line. We're nine people it's practically a theatre invasion, especially considering how rowdy we are. Joey and I are last in line of our group of friends and just as we buy our tickets someone yells out to us.
"Joey!" We whip around to see Jenna running towards us.
"Make that three tickets," Joey mutters to the woman on the other side of the glass. Jenna reaches us out of breath. She reaches into her pocket and hands the ticket lady her share for the tickets.
Jakob had already gone into the cinema with the others.
"Jakob's here right?" she asks nervously.
"Yup," I say trying not to burst out laughing.
It was like a cheesy air port movie the way Jenna ran up to Jakob and hugged him.
"Awe cheesy," I snicker to Joey.
We make our way into the cinema, Joey and I make our way in the back where we can be alone. I spot Jay and Kad taking the other back corner, the rest of our foolish friends sit in the middle where they can hit the most amount of people with popcorn.
At the end of the movie we all stumble out of the theater to the fresh air. Jay is actually laughing, which is a good sign. Kad is laughing too.
"What's up?" Joey asks as we head over to them.
"Its too embarrassing," Kad says giggling.
"The usher caught us making out and we had to move to the front of the theatre." Joe and I burst out laughing.
