Serendipity Girl, chapter 5
Lil spent most of the week over at my house, without a doubt she has the hots for Matt. Today, the plan was that Lil is supposed to come over and we're supposed to attack the guys with water guns and stuff. It's already mid-afternoon and she still isn't here. Finally I see her mom's car drop her off in front of my house, with her water gun slung over her shoulder. I run down the stairs to the door and let her in.
"Did you get everything ready?"
"Yeah," I say leading her to the kitchen where the sink is full of water balloons, "So how are we going to do this?"
"Call them up and tell them we want to go for another skate boarding lesson. Then we'll hide next to their garage and bombard them." I pick up the phone and dial their number.
"Hello?" Joey's voice says after a couple of rings.
"Hey."
"Oh hey Anna, what's up?"
"Well Lil and I were wondering if we could have another skate boarding lesson."
"Yeah sure, that sounds fun."
"So how about in fifteen minutes."
"Sounds good," He says smoothly, he sounds so sexy on the phone.
"It's all set," I say hanging up the phone as Lil smirks evilly. "We're going to need a bucket for these." I point at the water balloons. We go down to the basement and dig through the boxes and find a couple of buckets to hold the water balloons along with my old water gun.
We head outside and hide next to their garage as we wait for the three guys to come outside.
"Where are they?" Matt asks.
"I dunno, their probably still inside." Joey mutters. I look over at Lil and she nods, we run out with our water guns at the ready to find that Joey, Jakob and Matthew all have water guns in their hands and they manage to soak us first. I run back to get a couple of water balloons and just as I'm about to throw it Joey tackles me to the ground.
"Argh, how'd you know." I say as I press the water balloon on his head causing it to burst over his face.
"We saw Lil come in with her water gun." He says evilly as he grabs the second water balloon out of my hand and presses it against the back of my neck causing the water to spill down my back.
"Argh!" I yell as I push him off of me and run off to get more water balloons from the bucket.
In the fury of the water fight, Lil and I end up backing into their backyard. We're left defenseless as our water guns run out of water and the water balloons being back up front.
"Don't we look pitiful." Jakob says evilly.
"Shut-up Buttercup." I retort. The three guys come ever closer to us, we see Joey and Matthew look at each other and nod, next thing we know we're being tackled into the pool.
"You guys have to learn to keep your hands to your self." Lil says laughing as she pushes her hair out of her face.
"Oh jeez you're unbelievable sometimes." Adie says as she steps out onto the patio.
"I know, that's why we're special." Jakob says smirking, I thinking Jakob is a bit of a mama's boy, but then again Adie is pretty cool.
"Well Matthew's parents will be here soon so you might want to dry up before dinner." Adie says as the five of us swim to the pool steps, "Girls are you staying for dinner too?" I look over at Lil who shrugs, my parents would be home late anyway.
"Yeah." I say as smiles spread across Joey and Matthew's faces.
Lil and I head back to my house to get changed. I pull out a pair of jeans and a tank top out of my drawer as Lil digs through my closet. I head into the bathroom to get dressed and dry my hair. I come out of the washroom to see Lil wearing my clothes, its always weird to see other people wearing the same clothing as you, none the less your clothes, but it's Lil so I don't really care.
We head back to the guys backyard to find Billie Joe standing at the barbecue with Jakob and Joey and Matthew with beers in their hands.
"Do your parents know you drink?" I ask sneaking up behind them.
"Yeah, in fact my dad gave me my first beer." Joey says rolling his eyes. "Help yourself to one." He nods toward the cooler sitting next to the patio door with a stack of cups on it.
"Do you wanna go halfzies?" I ask Lil, she nods. The guys look at us dumbly. Lil and I each take a glass, she takes a can of 7up and I take a bottle of beer. We fill the cups half way with beer and the other half with 7up.
"So you're not new to the al-key-hall either." Matthew says in a teasing manor.
A man with bleach streaked hair walks out onto the patio.
"Hey kids." He says casually.
"Hey Uncle Steve, how's it hanging?" Joey asks.
"Not too shabby dude, saw some knarly boarders out there, dude it was awesome."
"Steve, stop talking like that." Adie says stepping out onto the balcony with another woman.
"Sorry Adie." He says laughing as he goes up to Matthew. "Miss me boy?"
"Not really." Matthew says taking a sip of beer.
"Real responsible Adie, letting my son drink."
"I know last night I bought him a couple of joints and a syringe full of heroine." She says sarcastically.
"Have you been good for your aunt and uncle?" the other woman asks.
"Yeah Mom." Matthew says as little annoyed.
"And who are these two?" Steve asks.
"This is Anna and Lil." Joey says casually.
"Oh." He says raising his eyebrows and looking at Matthew but he just shakes his head.
Jakob walks across the backyard to the balcony where we are.
"You girls are always here." Jakob says annoyed.
"You know you love us Buttercup." I tease as he turns bright red.
"You're going to take that?" Steve asks half laughing.
"It's not point arguing with this girl." Jakob says as he glares at me evilly as Steve rolls his eyes.
"So you think you can call my nephew Buttercup?"
"Yup."
"And why's that?"
"He called me girly."
"So, you are a girl aren't you?"
"I'm also part feminist." I say smugly.
"Dude, a feminist?" he asks looking at Joey.
"Wha?" Joey says shrugging.
"Oh it's the no bra thing, isn't it?"
"What?!" Joey says turning very red.
"Steve!" Matthew's mom says angrily. "A bit much there."
"Okay, I didn't say anything." Steve mumbles as he heads over to the cooler to get himself a beer.
Billie Joe comes to the table from the barbecue with a plate of hamburgers.
"Let's eat." He suggests we all nod in agreement as we serve ourselves supper.
Later that evening Matthew and his parents are saying their goodbyes. Meanwhile Lil is acting very antsy. As Matthew follows his parents to their car Lil can't contain herself any longer.
"Matthew!" she calls out.
"Yeah." He says turning around. She takes a pen out of her pocket and writes something on his hand. He smiles from ear to ear and gets into the car.
