Billie Joe, How Could You?!? (continued), chapter 3
*flashback*
"Cassie Foster, I love you more right now, more than I ever have before. Here these words straight from these lips and be mine forever more. Please, Cassie, will you marry me?" Billie asked.
*end of flashback*
"Billie, hear these words straight from these lips, as I say I will be yours for forever more," Cassie said as black tinged tears stained her cheeks. The room erupted with cheering as Billie gently grabbed her hand and slipped the ring around her finger. He jolted up and hugged her. His lips brushed against hers as they shared a passionate kiss. The newly engaged couple walked back towards the table with the rest of the band close behind.
"Cassie let me see the ring," Aralynn said as she grabbed her hand. A small gasp escaped her lips.
"It's beautiful," she whispered. Cassie blushed once those words parted from Aralynn's lips. The rest of the night went smoothly. About an hour after the proposal the group left the restaraunt.

The sun was now setting as the group finally decided to depart from eachother. Aralynn and Jeff went back to their house and Tre went back to his. Billie, Mike, and Cassie settled down on the couch and flipped on the t.v. A rerun of The Twilight Zone appeared on the screen.
"Oh. I love this episode," Cassie said as she realized what it was.
"You watch this?" Billie asked. He had really never been a fan of The Twilight Zone.
"Yeah. I use to all the time with my parents."
"What episode is this?" Mike asked.
"Don't tell me you watch this, too," Billie said with a groan.
"I did when ever you and Tre were pissed as hell and were puking up a gut. I didn't have anything to do, but laugh and watch you two or t.v. I naturally chose the t.v. And this was usually on," Mike said before turning to face Cassie," So Cass Cass what episode is this?"
Cassie groaned at the nickname she was given a few years back. She hated being called 'Cass Cass'.
"I don't know what it's called, but it's about a doll that comes to life and kills a man. Her name's Tiny Tina," she said after a few minutes. They all turned to watch the moving pictures dance across the screen. Billie let out a groan as he stretched underneath Cassie. She glanced at him and shook her head. She knew he wanted to go upstairs and have some 'fun', but she wasn't in the mood. All of a sudden Mike jumped. Cassie and Billie both turned their heads to stare at him.
"What? It's kinda freaky when a doll says 'I'm Tiny Tina and I'm gonna kill you' and she actually kills the guy," he said innocently. Cassie shook her head and swatted at Billie's leg. She stood up and stretched as the show came to an end.
"Well I'm heading upstairs. You coming or not?" she asked as she started up the stairs. Billie got up from the couch and started after her. Cassie sighed and shook her head as his step quickened behind her. He grabbed her around the waist, sending her into giggles.
"Ok, ok. I get the point. I'll hurry up," Cassie said as she started for the bedroom. She walked over to a bag she had in the corner of the room and went through it. She hadn't yet fully moved in with Billie. She had shared a house with her step-brother, Ronny, for a few years after her parents decided they were leaving for San Fransico. For three years they scrounged for food, water, and money. Most of the money had come from Billie and the band. Others had come from Ronny's small job. They managed to live, somehow. Billie sat on the bed behind her. He snaked his arms around her waist as she pulled out a pair of pajamas. He gently pushed back her hair and kissed her neck. He started to fumble with the tie on the back of her dress.
"Billie not tonight. I know we just got engaged, but I'm tired," Cassie said with a slight yawn.
"I know," he said with a sigh. Cassie sighed and got up from the bed. She walked into the bathroom and undressed. She slipped on her pajamas and tied her hair into a loose ponytail. She padded back into the bedroom to find Billie already on the bed in his boxers. She climbed in bed with him and closed her eyes. She felt his arms creep around her stomach as he pulled her closer to him. A smile crossed her lips as she felt his grasp. She slowly drifted into a deep sleep.

Billie awoke to find Cassie wasn't sleeping next to him. He sat up in bed and looked around the room. She wasn't there. He got out of bed and looked in the closet, in the bathroom and under the bed. Cassie walked into the room and leaned against the door frame. She watched him with amusement.
"What are you doing?" she asked after a while. When Billie heard her voice he immediatly sat up, only to bash his head into the bed's wooden frame. He slowly came out from underneath the bed rubbing his head.
"I'm sorry baby. Are you okay?" Cassie asked with a giggle as she walked over to Billie and crouched down next to him. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders.
"Yeah. I'm fine," he said still rubbing his head," Where'd you go? I was looking for you."
"Well I wasn't going to be under the bed. I was over at my house. I went to get more stuff and show Ronny the ring."
"What'd he say?"
"He said he's happy for us and he wishes us well."
"Pfft. Yeah right," Billie said while rolling his eyes.
"You still can't get over that one little fight that happened four years ago. Remember you gave him the better beating," Cassie said shaking her head.
"What ever," Billie said while standing up. Cassie stood up also and walked out of the room and down into the livingroom. She sat on the couch next to Mike and sighed.
"What did Bill do?" he asked.
"He can't get over that fight with Ronny."
"The fight that happened four years ago?"
"Mmhmm. I mean Ronny's trying to make matters better between them, but he's being to fucking stubborn to listen."
"He can be like that at times."
"He's being a complete ass towards my brother. It just pisses me off! It's been four fucking years."
"Give him time, Cass. He'll come around."
Billie had stopped on the stairs when he heard those words. 'Maybe they're right. Maybe I am just being stubborn. Damn Bill, why'd you have to fuck everything up?' he asked himself before walking the rest of the way downstairs. He walked into the kitchen and grabbed a few beers before heading down into the basement. Cassie had turned her head to watch her soon to be husband. She sighed and stood up from her place. She slowly padded her way into the kitchen and down the basement steps.
"Bill, sweety, are you okay?" she asked quietly as she started her way down the stairs. The soft melodic tone of someone plucking a guitar filled the room.
"Bill?" Cassie asked again more quietly than before, walking the rest of the way downstairs. She glanced in the corner of the room to find the musician sitting on the floor, with his guitar in his lap, and a few beers around him.
"Bill, what's wrong?" she asked as she sat beside him.
"Maybe you guys are right. I am being stubborn. God, I'm such a fucking ass! Why do I have to fuck everything up?" Billie shouted.
"Babe, you didn't fuck anything up," Cassie cooed.
"Yes I did. You and Mike are right, I am an ass. I fucked up with Ronny. He could of been a good friend, but no, I had to tell him off every time I saw him. I'm such a fuck up!"
"Billie Joe Armstrong! Listen to me. You might of been an ass to him, but you are the sweetest man I know! You didn't fuck up anything with him, he still wants to become friends. Bill, you're not a fuck up. You're not a fuck up." Cassie said on the brink of tears, as she hugged him. She couldn't stand seeing him like this. Billie sighed and shoved Cassie off of him. She fell back with a gasp as he grabbed a beer. He opened it up and took a long swig from it.
"Bill, you can't drink your problems away." Cassie said staring at him, her voice starting to crack. She sighed and grabbed all the beers around him, except for the one he was drinking, and stormed upstairs. Billie set the beer he had in his hand down and stood up. He followed her, on hot pursuit. She ran out into shitty looking weather, with the beers and threw them out into the street. She stood there and watched the bottles shatter against the ground, fresh tears just now rolling down her cheeks. Billie ran out next to her and stared at the bottles and then at his fiance.
"Cass, I'm sorry," he whispered as he wrapped his arms around her. She buried her face in his chest and continued to sob.
"I don't want you to turn out like my father did. He drank his problems away. He killed himself Bill! He killed himself because none of his problems were resolved. I don't want that to be you," she sobbed, her voice cracking with each word.
"Shush babe. I promise, that wont be me. If I ever start drinking like that, tell me I'm being a dick and I'll stop. I'm sorry, I'm sorry," Billie whispered in her ears. He slowly sat down in the grass, with her still in her arms. A cold wind blew around them, as it began to rain. Billie looked up to the sky, blinking every once in a while when a rain drop fell in his eyes. He held Cassie tightly trying to keep her dry, but failing miserably. The cold rain chilled them to the bone. Every once in awhile a shiver would rack Cassie's body.
"Guys get inside! There's s'possed to be a bad storm blowing in!" Mike yelled out the door as a flash of lightening cut through the sky. Billie slowly started to raise up to his feet, still holding the crying Cassie. The sound of thunder was heard rolling in from the distance as the two made their way back inside. Once inside Cassie was still clinging onto Billie, she was hoping that what he said was true. Too many bad things happened with drinking in her family. Her father had killed himself after almost beating her mother to death.
flashback
Cassie walked out of her room only in her night gown. She had heard screaming coming from her parent's room. She crept across the dark hallway as quietly as possible. Since she was eight that wasn't too hard for her to acomplish. The screaming in the room started to get worse as she continued her way to the door, which was open a crack. She stopped outside the door and knelt down, peaking in through the crack to see what was happening. The moon dimly lit the inside of the room, giving it an eery look. Her mother was yelling about how her father had came home drunk with her around. This was a sore spot for her father since he was always drinking. Something snapped inside of him as he slapped his wife of nine years across the face. She quickly retailiated by slapping him also. This pissed her father off as he began to beat his wife. Cassie watched in horror as this sceene began to unfold. She had watched her mother experience the worst beating of her life. Once it was over her father began to ramble continuosly as he started to look through a drawer. He pulled out a pistol and held it to his head and pulled the trigger. A long bang echoed through the halls as he fell to the floor. Cassie shrieked at the sound and ran into the corner of the hallway. She scrunched up in a little ball and started to cry. Her mother had heard Cassie's and walked out into the hallway.
"It's okay sweety," she cooed as she bent down and picked her daughter up. Cassie looked at her mother's face which was a bloody mess. She placed a hand to her cheek and wiped some blodd off of her mother's lip.
"Go into your room and gather some of your things. We're leaving." her mother said once she placed Cassie down. Cassie slowly nodded her head and disappeared into her room to pack.
End of flashback
That memory flashed through Cassie's mind as she watched the storm with Billie. She was still breathing heavily and sobbing every once in awhile, but her crying fit had stopped. Billie wrapped his arms around her, as if trying to say it's okay, don't cry. Cassie felt comforted by his touch and calmed down. As she watched the storm, she thought of the future for them, and what it would hold.
"Cassie Foster, I love you more right now, more than I ever have before. Here these words straight from these lips and be mine forever more. Please, Cassie, will you marry me?" Billie asked.
