You've Got Mail, chapter 1
Hi. My name is Adrienne Nesser. I'm 17 years old. Internet is my life. Don't get me wrong. I like the real world. Its just- on the internet you can escape from all your troubles and fears, talk to people you don't even know, pour your soul out to them, maybe even your heart. I'm not saying it's a smart thing to do-anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself here. This is my story.
I entered a chatroom. It was one of those boring-no-topic chatrooms. Normally I go for something in the anti-war/peace category, but today I didn't.
wanna have sex and get married? has signed on, my computer read. Seriously, that made me laugh. I decided to strike up a conversation. You see, there's always that safe feeling I have when I'm chatting with someone I don't know. If you feel uncomfortable, all you have to do is push that little power button and everything goes black. You know what I'm talking about. Don't pretend like you haven't done it before. That person could be in China, for all you know, halfway around the world. Or they could be next door. You never know.

I woke up that morning to the sun streaming in my face. Damn sun, I thought. It was summer break, so there was no school. You see I live in this apartment all by myself. Actually I don't. My friend Ana occasionally crashes here, when she's, you know, not out partying. She's always encouraging me to go with her, but I can't. I dunno. I'm not the party type.
I walked out of my room and into the kitchen, pouring myself some orange juice. See, I was never a big fan of coffee. Just then I looked over and saw the light on my computer blinking. I walked over to it. You've Got Mail, it read, in big bold yellow letters. I clicked read, and sat down.
