The Regrets, chapter 1

Erni's POV

"Who stole my sticks?!" I yelled around our backstage dressing room. "I swear to god they were in my pocket," I mumbled, confused.

"That's coz they were, until you discovered that you couldn't sit down with them in your pocket and you put them on the table," my best friend, band mate and guitar player for our band The Regrets, Kylie said.

"Thanks Kyles!" I grinned, grabbing the sticks from her and shoving them back in the pocket of my ripped black jeans.

Ok. Time for the whole boring introductions bit. My name is Erin, but everyone I know calls me Erni. I'm 21 and I am the drummer for the band The Regrets. I have hair so dark brown it's almost black, that has electric blue in the bottom half of it. I have blue eyes that are constantly rimmed in black and I have a lip ring that I constantly play with while I'm drumming. I'm about 5'7" and thankfully I'm not the shortest in the band. That award goes to Terri. My usual get up is black jeans and a tight tank top, but that can vary from day to day and when we have gigs.

My band mates are; Chloe who plays guitar, Charlotte who plays bass, Amanda who's vocals, Kylie who plays second guitar and Terri who does the keyboards and shit. They are all also 21, except for Kyles who has her birthday in a month.

So, back to the story.

"Erni, did you steal the main lead for my keyboard?" Terri asked me, an angered look in her eye.

"What happened the last time I did that Ter?" I questioned.

"I broke your wrist and you couldn't play for a whole 2 months," she grinned, somewhat triumphant.

"Exactly. We both know I can't live without drumming, so, ask Tom where it is," Tom was our roadie/ manager.

"TOM!" she yelled, going over to the door leading out of the room.

Man I'm such a trouble maker, and I'll probably get the shit kicked out of me later, but I don't care, this is too much fun!

"You better run Erin!" Terri yelled at me, as she came back into the room, and I didn't need telling twice. I didn't want another broken wrist.

***

"Right. Are you girls ready to go?" Tom asked as he came into the dressing room.

"Nah Tom," I said. "I'm just sitting here in my stage outfit and drumming on Chloe's back, but nah, we aren't ready," I said rolling my eyes and grinning when he gave me a dirty look.

"Well let's go then!" he exclaimed, causing everyone else in the room to either become hyper, nervous or pumped up.

Amanda gets the most nervous out of all of us. I spotted her in the corner doing her vocal warm up exercise things she does.

"Come on Manda, this is just another gig. No need to be nervous," I said throwing an arm around her shoulders.

"Yes but it's a big gig," she protested as we made it to the side of the stage.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I give you... The Regrets!" Tom announced over the PA. That was our cue, and we all rushed onstage.

The crowd roaring was enough to make me even more hyper. I loved the rush I got from playing onstage. Sure this wasn't a very big gig but it was bigger than what we were used to and everyone we knew had come to see us.

"Ok guys, are you ready to rock?!" Amanda yelled into the mike. Funny how she was all nervous before and now she's fine huh? "Now, were only playing covers tonight, so I hope you guys like it," she said as Kyles and Chloe struck the first few chords of Master of Puppets to check the levels of their amps.

I took a deep breath and readied myself. This was one of the harder songs that I had to play.

End of passion play, crumbling away
I'm your source of self-destruction
Veins that pump with fear, sucking darkest clear
Leading on your death's construction

Taste me you will see
more is all you need
you're dedicated to
how I'm killing you

Come crawling faster
obey your Master
your life burns faster
obey your Master
Master

Master of Puppets I'm pulling your strings
twisting your mind and smashing your dreams
Blinded by me, you can't see a thing
Just call my name, `cause I'll hear you scream
Master
Master
Just call my name, `cause I'll hear you scream
Master
Master

Needlework the way, never you betray
life of death becoming clearer
Pain monopoly, ritual misery
chop your breakfast on a mirror

This was the kinda instrumental bit where Kyles and Chloe played the melody in different keys and Charlotte added her bit on the bass. I took the time and took a few deep breaths before we got to a fast part again.

[chrous]

Master, Master, Where's the dreams that I've been after?
Master, Master, You promised only lies
Laughter, Laughter, All I hear and see is laughter
Laughter, Laughter, laughing at my cries

It was here that Chloe ripped into her solo. Fuck she was good.

Hell is worth all that, natural habitat
just a rhyme without a reason
Neverending maze, drift on numbered days
now your life is out of season

[Chorus]

The song finished and we all did our own evil laugh.

About halfway through the concert, I noticed a group of six guys that looked really, really familiar. I couldn't put my finger on it for who they were though.

"Oi Chloe," I said beckoning her over with my head.

"What?" she asked as she came over, adjusting the strap on her guitar.

"Check out those guys over there near the bar, do they look strangely familiar to you?" I questioned.

"Shit! Yeah they do actually," she said squinting a little bit. The lights on this stage were pretty damn bright.

"We'll find them later ey?' I grinned winking at her. Poor Chloe. She never could keep a boyfriend.

"Fuck you," she said smirking as we went into the next song.

***

"Ok, these are our last few songs, and they're a little slower so Erni over there can have a rest," Amanda grinned as she turned around and motioned to me.

The crowd laughed as I stood up on my stool and wiped sweat of my forehead. It may have looked imaginary to them, but I was sweating bucket loads.

We went on to play Nothing Else Matters by Metallica and we finished with Good Riddance by our favourite band, that we were influenced by, Green Day.

"Awesome fucking show kids," I said as we all got up and bowed and waved to our audience. "Who's up for getting shit faced?" I asked, grinning.

They all laughed and smacked me over the back of the head in turn.

"OWWW!" I said pouting. "You're all meanie heads!"

"Yeah. But we still love ya. Now go take a shower, you smell woman!" Terri said, hugging me from behind and then shoving me into the bathroom.

While I was in the shower I washed my hair and scrubbed all my makeup off. I grinned when I got out and heard the rest of them protesting from the other side of the door.

"Hurry up Erni! I gotta pee!" Kylie whined.

"Yeah. We all wanna look as pretty as you; we just don't have the time!" Tom exclaimed.

"Jeez! Don't get your undies in a knot will ya?" I joked as I flung open the door and walked out.

I dressed in my customary black jeans and slid on an abnormally tight Black Red Hot Chilli Peppers t shirt.

"Are you looking to get laid or something Ez?" Chloe joked as she applied her eyeliner again.

"Aren't I always looking to get laid?" I said grinning cheekily. This top that I had on was rather low cut. "Besides, boys love cleavage" I grinned, winking.

Everyone continued changing, and about 15 minutes later they were done.

"To the bar people!" I yelled.

They all giggled and followed after me. I wanted to get plastered beyond belief. But I also wanted to see if that group of guys were who I thought they were.

"Chloe! Those guys are gone! Looks like were going home alone tonight love!" I yelled to be heard.

"Ah man. I wanted to hook in too" she pouted.

"What would you like ladies?" the rather cute bartender asked us.
"Your in," I giggled to Chloe, pointing. "I'll have a Fruit Tingle please, and don't skimp on the vodka."

"How can you drink them?" Amanda asked me. "They're repulsive"

"How can you not like the prospect of three different kinds of vodka mixed with red soda man? Live a little grandma!" I said poking her in the ribs and grabbing the cocktail.

"It's on the house," the barman said, winking as he gave the other girls there drinks.

"To The Regrets!" I said triumphantly and loudly to be heard over the new band that was now on.

"To The Regrets!" everyone else chorused after me.

We all laughed and drank at our drinks. It was all fine until we were interrupted.

"To The Regrets indeed. They were fucking brilliant," I heard someone, a male say. I looked around for a bit confused until I laid eyes on them.

"Holy fuck! Charlie look!" I said pointing and trying not to fall off my seat.

She followed my hand and her jaw dropped to the floor. This was unbelievable. There sitting at other end of the bar, saying we were brilliant, were our idols.

"No fucking way!" Charlie uttered before collapsing on the seat next to me, watching in awe as they made their way over to us.

"You're kidding," Kylie muttered from the other side of me.

"You'd better not be kidding, or else your paying for the next round of drinks," Tom joked, even though I knew his jaw was on the ground like ours were.

"Hello ladies and, um, gent. Tre Cool's the name, but I guess you already knew that."

Tre's POV

"Are you real?" she asked, disbelieving as she pulled a drumstick out of her pocket and poked me.

"Ouch! Yes I am!" I exclaimed, rubbing at my ribs.

"Holy fuck!" she mumbled. "I just poked Tre Cool, god of drumming, and I hurt him. I am such a fuckwit!"

"Nah shit Ez," this dude that was with the group of 6 girls said, sipping at a beer. "Tom," he said, sticking his hand out for me to shake. "Manager/roadie for The Regrets," he finished, motioning to the girls in front of him that still had their jaws on the floor.

I whistled to the guys, motioning them to come over. "Well I'm Tre and this is Billie, Mike, Jason, Ronnie and Jason," I said as I pointed to them respectively.

"That's Erin our drummer, Chloe our guitarist, Charlotte our bassist, Amanda our vocalist, Kylie our second guitar and Terri who does keyboards for us," he finished taking a deep breath. "If they don't know what you guys play by now, I don't give a shit because I can't be assed explaining it," he said matter of factly.

Man that drummer was hot, and she was drinking something that looked rather interesting.

"Get me one of them," I said to the bar tender, motioning to the drink this drummer chick was having.

"One Fruit Tingle coming up," he said.

"Oooo, a vodka man are we? I like the way you drink," she said giggling at the joke she had made.

The bartender came back and I took a sip out of this mystery cocktail. "Holy shit! It's brilliant," I exclaimed, not expecting it to taste as good as it did. I downed half of it before turning to face her.

"So you're a drummer huh? For how long?" I asked, eager to get to know her better.

"Well I'm 21 now, so for about 13 years," she said. "What about yourself?" she queried.

"Bout the same. Only I've been playing since I was 11. Any influences?"

"Well duh... you, but also Lars Ulrich," she seemed embarrassed when she said the bit about me being an influence, but she looked cute when she was blushing.

***

The night went on and the Fruit Tingles kept flowing.

"I challenge you to a shots race!" I exclaimed. "Me and Bill versus you and... and her," I said pointing at one of their guitarists. Chloe I think her name was.

"You're so going down," she said slurring slightly. "Chloe! Get your ass over here! We have a shots race to win!"

"If we can down five shots each before you guys do, we get a big kiss. And if you do it before us, you get the kiss. Capishe?" I said, trying to make my eyes focus on the vodka being poured into the 20 separate shot glasses. It was proving to be very difficult for me.

"Alright, go!" Mike said, causing a lot of scrambling for shot glasses and vodka spilling.

"Done!" both sides exclaimed, simultaneously.

"Fuck," Erin muttered. "Alright. Final, you versus me Vodka Boy," she said motioning for the bartender to pour us more.

"And go!" Chloe said, slurring slightly from beside us.

5... 4...3...

"Done!" she exclaimed triumphantly. How the hell did she do that?

"You finally met your match Tre," Billie laughed going back to the others.

"I believe you owe me something?" she said giggling. She was right. I made the rules didn't I?

"Fine. C'mere then," I said motioning her closer to me.

She got up slowly and sat herself in my lap. I raised an eyebrow before grabbing the sides of her face and kissing her. That lip ring felt so good. Wait! Does she have a tongue ring too? This girl gets better and better.

I pulled back. "A big kiss for the big winner," I said grinning and winking at her.

"Well, the big winner wants to dance. Come with?" she asked grabbing my hand and not really giving me a choice.

"Well ok," I said laughing and following her.

We got to the floor and I pulled her close. She was just a bit taller than me. I couldn't help but stare at her rack. The top she was wearing certainly wasn't making it any easier.

"My eyes are up here," she grinned after making a whistling noise to get my attention.

"I wasn't staring," I protested.

"Were to," she giggled as a faster song began to play. The band had left by this stage and there was just a dj.

"Hook in Ez!" was heard from across the room, accompanied by an over exaggerated wink by an obviously drunk Kylie.

"Ditto Kyles!" she yelled back. Kylie was dancing with Jason White, and he looked very pleased with himself. I laughed loud and went back to dancing like the total half drunk ass that I was.

***

"AND I STILL CALL UR ANUS HOME!!" I couldn't help but giggle at our drunken behaviour. Especially Mikey, he was a funny drunk, that's for sure. We had all had WAY too much to drink and were stumbling to where we thought we were staying tonight.

"So where are you guys staying tonight?" I asked, laughing at the state of Kylie and Jason trying to keep each other upright. It wasn't working for them and they were tripping and stumbling every few meters, giggling all the while.

"Oooooh! We have this cool caravan/ tour bus thing we stay in while we do gigs. You should see it! It's huge! We're parked in the parking lot of The Regent tonight," she giggled, also trying to stay upright, but managing coherent speech.

"No way!" I said, turning to the side and letting out a huge belch. She giggled. "That's the hotel we're at! So you're the ones with the electric blue bus. Nice"

"Wanna come see it now?" she asked, just as we rounded the corner and the hotel came into view. "I'm sure Tommy won't mind" she said, indicating to the very drunk band manager that seemed to be having a conversation with The Freese about why pigs can't fly.

"Yeah alright," I followed her up to their bus, and everyone seemed to follow, whether they were in The Regrets or not.

"Ok. Since when do I have an extra 6 people in my band?" Tom slurred.

"Since we made clones," Erin giggled, finally unlocking the bus and almost face planting it as she tried to go up the steps.

"Didya have a nice trip?" Mikey asked from behind us, where he was tangled up with their bassist Charlotte. "Charlie here told me you do that a lot," he said smirking.

"Well Charlie can sit on it and swivel," she grinned, flipping them off.

She wasn't lying when she said it was huge. Just the living room area was big enough to ensure that the extra 6 of us would have a comfortable nights sleep even if we would wake up with killer hangovers in the morning.

"Let's play poker!" Terri, the keyboard chick exclaimed from somewhere near The Freese.

"Terri my dear, we were to drunk to make it up the stairs without tripping, how the hell are we gonna play anything that involves thinking?!?"

"Ok, so maybe you have a point," she slurred. "But we can still try!"

The next morning...

Urrrgh! Will someone tell the elephant that is currently sitting on my brain to get the fuck off it!

I rolled over to try and keep the sun from getting in my eyes.

Hang on. That wasn't there before.

I cracked open an eye to see what was preventing me from rolling over and saw Erin, hair dishevelled, makeup smeared and smelling a lot like the three kinds of vodka we had last night, curled up into my side with her arms wrapped around me.

I smiled and tried to settle back down without waking her, but it didn't work.

"It burns!" she murmured, after trying to open her eyes and being met by the blinding sun.

She snuggled down further and tried again.

"Hi," she mumbled sleepily, looking up at me slightly. "Sleep well?"

"Hi," I smiled back, looking into her green eyes. "Yes, very," I said, indicating the position we were in.

"Pervert," she giggled, reaching under the bunk that we had actually made it to last night. Everyone else was passed out in the lounge.

"What the hell are you getting?' I questioned as she continued to scramble around underneath the bunk.

"This," she said triumphantly, pulling out a bottle of pain killers.

"Ah! I take it you've had hangovers as bad as the one I have now before then?" I said quirking an eyebrow.

"Ergh! Yeah" she said attempting to moving and ending up cringing. "Make it stop," she mumbled holding at her head.

"If I thought I could risk standing up to get us some water, I would," I sympathised.

"Fuck! Who has the pain killers?" was moaned from the other room.

"I do. Why? Who's asking?" she said.

"Me," Jason White moaned. "Damn you to hell woman! I never drink this much"

"Oh shut up! I still have the painkillers ya know! Besides, you could have stopped drinking at any time last ya know. You just chose to go on, and that's not my fault," she groaned as she rolled off the bed and began slowly crawling into the other room.

As she went past I slapped her ass.

"I'll get you when I come back," she said glaring at me evilly.

I laughed and buried my head in the pillow.

Bring it on baby...
