Now What's Gonna Happen? (sequel to What the Hell...?), chapter 3

I went over to my old school, to see if it survived. The only thing standing was half of the church. I went over to where the office should be, and saw some of my old teachers there trying to see what was left of the rubble. I went over.
"Could I help with anything?" I asked.
"Sure," said one of the teachers I didn't recognize. I got my instructions, and went over to where the Kindergarten classrooms would be on the first floor and the 5th and 6th grade classrooms on the second. There I saw my 6th grade teacher, Mrs. Ciotti.
"Mrs. Ciotti!" I hollered over to her. "How are you?"
"Doing pretty well, considering the damage," she laughed. I introduced my group, and we all helped out.

Around noon, we went on lunch break. I decided to go see how some of my other friends were doing. I managed to get through to some of them on their cells, and the others, I just went to their house. First I went to the closest, which was my friend Taylor's. I was glad to see nobody there, which meant they were smart enough to evacuate. Then I went city by city, to Cooper City, Pembroke Pines, and out to Weston, than back to Davie. After the rounds, we finished up at the school, then just drove around town. Well, walked most of it. Cars couldn't go through with the debris. I was making sure no one was getting into any trouble, when I saw Jake and Stella headed into an area with water. I immediately checked for downed power lines, and saw about 5 in the water there.
"JAKE! STELLA! DON'T MOVE!" I screamed, running over to them. They froze. I never yelled at them like that, so they didn't know what was wrong. "If you two go in there, you'll get yourselves electrocuted!" Jake jumped out, but Stella was in a little deeper, and was too scared to move.
"Stella, just stay still. I'll get you." I carefully avoided the wires, and everyone was watching, scared of what might happen. I took hold of Stella's arm, and lifted her out to Mike. Then I had to get myself out. I spotted a live wire, and scrambled to get out, but didn't. I screamed, and fell flat down in the water.

BILLIE JOE'S POV
"KAY!" I ran in after her, but got pulled back by Adrienne and Mike. "Let go of me! We've got to help her!"
"No, Billie Joe! Don't! We'll get help while you guys see if you can find something to drag her out!" Adrienne ordered running back to the school followed by Tre, Joey, and Nick. We looked around, and saw a broken tree. It was thin, and had a lot of stronger looking branches. Mike lifted it up and over to her, and I maneuvered it so it would snag her clothes. We dragged half of her out, than I ran and lifted her out of the water, just as Adie came back with a few paramedics and an ambulance.

"She's gonna hate this," I sighed. "She's in the hospital again."
"She'll hate herself more," Adrienne said.
"What?"
"Kay allowed herself to get injured. She'll be madder at herself than at the fact she's in the hospital."
"But look at what she did! She saved Jake's and Stella's lives!"
"She'll still be mad at herself. But send Stella in first when she wakes up."
"Excuse me, Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong?" a doctor came out and asked.
"Yes?" I yelped, surprised.
"You can start going in. Kay just woke up." Stella went running in, followed by Jake. The kids all went in first. Then the rest of us crowded in.

KAY'S POV
"KAY!" Stella yelled, running up to me. "I'm so, so sorry! It's my fault you're hurt!"
"Oh, jeez, Stell, it's not," I said, hugging her. She was crying her eyes out and clinging to me. "I'm the one who didn't warn you about the live wires, so I'm at fault for letting you two go in."
"It was our fault, too, Kay," Jake said. "We read about this stuff in science class, so we should've used common sense!"
"Common sense doesn't come on command!" I laughed. Stella let go of me and went over to Mike.
"Yeah, I guess you're right," Jake laughed. Billie Joe looked relieved to see I wasn't hurt.
"What's up, Billie? Your face looks weird," I said. "Not that it normally doesn't."
"Hey!" Billie Joe defended. "I saved your life! Be a little more grateful!"
"You couldn't have lifted that tree trunk. Ever! Mike probably did that for you, and you moved it to snag my clothes or hair to pull me out!"
"How did you figure that out?" Billie Joe asked. I gave him my 'Are you an idiot?' face.
"Please. I'm not THAT stupid."

3 DAYS LATER
"Finally, I'm out of that place," I said, stretching in the Florida sunshine.
"I bet you are. You were riding on the wheelchairs with Ramona and Stella the past 3 days," Adrienne laughed. "Then you almost slammed into that needle tray when they had to give you that shot. Which they couldn't."
"I hate needles. Put one within two feet of me, I'll do anything in my power to get away from it," I sighed. Then I started singing Ha Ha, You're Dead. They all started singing with me, except Adrienne and the boys. Then I noticed someone walking by us. I stopped in my tracks, but continued singing. "Ha Ha, You're Dead. The joke is over. You were an ASSHOLE," I sang, and she recognized my voice.
"Why are you still here? I thought you went to Cali," my friend Hailey said, turning around. "And why were you singing Ha Ha, You're Dead?"
"Because I feel like it," I answered, and we all continued singing. This time Hailey joined in, too. "And because I wanted to see if my home was still standing, which it isn't."
"Ouch," Hailey laughed. "Where are you going to stay?"
"In a building that's still standing," Billie Joe laughed. Hailey's eyes widened.
"I thought I was seeing things that night," she gasped. "But it really is Billie Joe Armstrong."
"The one and only," Billie Joe grinned.
"And Tre Cool!" Tre yelled.
"Mike, but I think you know that," Mike said, extending his hand for her to shake. She looked at each of them, then at me, and back to them, than shook Mike's hand.
"Hailey, don't pass out on me here," I laughed, seeing the expression on her face. "I'm not strong enough to carry you, and I don't know if Mike is either."
"Are you implying we aren't strong?" Billie Joe mocked, in a fake British accent.
"Psh," I laughed. "I bet you can't even lift me."
"Oh, really?"
"Try." And he did. "My turn." I was easily able to lift him-with one arm, and still walk. That's something, seeing as how I was shorter than he was.
"Alright, alright, I get it, now put me down," Billie whined.
"Okay," I grinned, and dropped him right on his butt. "You said put you down. You didn't say how."

I located a relief area, where they were trying to get people's attention for help. I went over and asked if I could try something. So I took out my guitars, and handed one to Billie Joe. I plugged in my electric, and started playing random songs again. We were getting attention, and soon there was a long line of people to help. I let Nick take over for me for a while so I could find some drinks.
"Excuse me, miss?" someone asked me.
"Yeah?" I said, turning to see who it was.
"I'm Harley Norstor, owner of local Storm Records. I heard you playing out there. You're really quite good."
"Well, thanks, I guess," I said. "I was in a band, but we had to break up because I moved to California. But we're all here now, if you want to hear us."
"That'd be great! I've got some spare instruments in my van. What do you need?"
"Drum kit and a bass. I've got two guitars. Oh, and a microphone."
Harley went off to get what was needed, and I went to tell Laury, Jimmie, and Nick we were doing a show.
"How did you get us for a show? When?" Laury asked. Jimmie started jumping up and down, and Nick went to tell everyone.
"He just approached me after I finished playing and went to get some drinks. He's with Storm Records."
"What's Storm Records?" Billie Joe asked me, walking over with Nick.
"My company," Harley said, dragging several cases. I took the bass and Jimmie and Laury helped with the drums. Nick took the microphone. "Alright then, you guys, er, girls, ready for this show?"
"HELL YES!" I hollered, jumping up and down. Boy was I ready for a live show. I don't know about Jimmie though. She looks really nervous. "Jimmie, relax. Pretend we're in your massive garage."
"I'll do my best," Jimmie smiled nervously, then we all took our places.
"1, 2, a 1234!" I yelled, and we started the set. First, we covered Give Me Novocaine, Jimmie's favorite song, then we did some of our own, and finished off with Sunday Bloody Sunday, with me and Nick switching back and forth on vocals. Harley looked impressed, and the group looked pretty happy. Nobody'd seen us live before except our parents when we practiced in Jimmie's garage. "See, that wasn't so bad, was it Jimmie?"
"Nope! That was fun!" Jimmie laughed.
"We sounded better than we do in the garage! It echoes," Laury grinned.
"Now I feel like running around the place," I said, setting my guitar down and started running, but soon slammed into a wall because I wasn't looking where I was going. I started laughing like a maniac.
"Your vision still sucks, then?" Nick asked me, laughing.
"Since when has it gotten better?" I replied, still laughing and rubbing my head.
"Good point."
"Speaking of good," Harley said. "I'd like to sign you guys."
"What!?" we all yelled.
"Are you serious!?" Laury hollered.
"Yes, I am," Harley said. Even Billie Joe looked surprised.
"I don't know," I muttered.
"Kay, come on, this is our big break!" Jimmie said.
"Jimmie, you know I want to be a doctor, especially after everything. I never really thought about becoming a serious music artist," I sighed, looking down.
"It's alright, Kay, we understand," Laury said, putting her hand on my shoulder. "We don't have too."
"What!? This is the only thing I'm good at, and what you two are really good at! And now we're giving it up," Jimmie hollered. "I can't believe you guys! I thought we stuck through it ALL!"
"Jimmie, come on, think about it," Laury started. I was too ashamed to speak. "This is what Kay's wanted all her life. You're smart; this isn't the only thing you're good at! Look, you're good at math, outstanding in science, better than us at chemistry, which is saying something, and you're athletic! Why won't you see that?"
"Because it won't get me anywhere in life!" Jimmie cried. "Music is all that keeps me from suicide, you know that! You know what I tried when I was 7! Music saved my life, and it's all that keeps me alive!"
"Jimmie, you're acting like a baby," I said, getting annoyed. "Laury's right. Listen to yourself. Until you realize what you are and who you are, this band's not doing anything."
"Really? Then I guess I'm not a part of this band anymore." With that, Jimmie threw the drumsticks on the ground, and stormed off. I started crying. Jimmie never looked back.
"What did I do, Laur? What did I just do to her?"
"Kay, please don't beat yourself up over this. We'll find a new drummer," Laury said, trying to reassure me. "It was her choice, not your fault."
"Yes, it is. I caused her to get mad, and now... ," I dropped to the ground. "God, I'm a friggen moron."
"No, you're not," Billie Joe said, kneeling down to my level. "You're actually one of the smartest people I know."
"Yeah right. Smart people don't drive their friends away like that, dammit!"
"You still have friends," Stella said to me, coming in front and hugging me. "Like us."
"I'm starting to want to go back to California. Too much has happened here. Laury, maybe your family would let you come back with us."
"I'll go ask," she said, standing up and running to where her parents were standing. She came back in 3 minutes. "They said yes! I just have to pack what's left of my stuff. Could you help?"
"Sure," I grinned, and me, Ramona, and Stella followed her.
"Well, I don't have too much, but I still have about a suitcase or two of clothes," Laury said, grabbing one suitcase. Ramona grabbed the other, Stella grabbed some of her smaller stuff, and I grabbed her two basses.
"That it?" I asked.
"Yep," Laury replied. "That's it."

We booked another plane back to California, and my seat was between Billie Joe's and Laury's, but Billie Joe switched with Ramona so he could sit by Adrienne. We all popped some gum into our mouths so our ears wouldn't pop, and we were off. Mona was terrified, but me and Laury were loving every minute of it.

4 hours later, we were in California. Once we were all dropped off at our destinations, my phone started ringing to Holiday-meaning Jimmie was calling.

"What?" I answered.
"Where the hell are you guys? I can't find you anywhere!" Jimmie said, annoyed.
"We're in California, if you care," I said, and hung up.
"Harsh," Billie said.
"Life's harsh. Jimmie's gotta lot to learn, and this will help her," I sighed. "I'm hungry."
