A Green Day Story, chapter 16

It was a few days after the whole mall incident, and Kyle was finally able to escape the torture of his hospital bed. Arms linked, Ashley and I skipped merrily into his room with foolish grins plastered onto our faces.
"Guess who get's to go home today!" I said in a sing-song voice and Ashley giggled.
"I swear you two are on something," Mike groaned as he, Tre, and Billie Joe shuffled lifelessly into the room.
"Prove it," Ashley stuck out her tongue as I grabbed ahold of Kyle's arm.
"Get outta that bed, lazy butt. You're coming with us." He laughed and swung his legs over the side of the bed and sighed.
"Thank God, I thought I'd never see the outside world again!" He took in a deep breath and stood up, stretching. He had known he was going to be let out earlier so he had time to change out of his hospital gown. I hugged him and we led him out to the front desk where we checked him out of the hospital.
"Whatcha wanna do? You and Ashley go home tomorrow, so we better make the best of our last day together for a while," Tre asked with less hype than usual. I actually believed he was sad they were going. I gave him a quick glance before grabbing Billie's hand. Kyle signed himself out and we walked out to the car. Jumping into the back seat along with Billie, Tre, and Ashley, I suggested going back to where we went when Ashley and Kyle first came: the park.

"This seem familiar?" Mike asked me as we sat side by side on the swings. I nodded slightly and smiled. "Remember last time we were here... You asked me something."
"Really? What was it?" I met his eyes with a quizzical expression.
"You asked, 'Should I just leave my past behind, and lose these two friends and start anew? Or should I just continue to push the past with the present? '"
"Wow, you remembered it word for word. What about it?" I stared at my friends who were running around and Tre who was splashing the water in the fountain at random passer-bys.
"I think... You should continue to push the past with the present. So far it's worked out really well."
"How so?"
"At first when Kyle and Ashley came to visit, there was a bit of tension... We didn't really get along all that well. But now, I'll admit, I'm actually sad they're leaving. We became friends, and I think even Billie's getting used to Kyle being around."
"I'm really glad to hear that, Mike. Thanks," I stood up and put a hand on Mike's shoulder and smiled.
"Welcome," He stood and gave me a warm hug.
"C'mon, peeps, hug time's over!" Billie threw a stick at the ground near us. I turned around and grinned at him. I walked towards him and higged him. Grabbing my skateboard, I set it on the floor with one foot on it.
"Race ya to that..." I looked around. "Tree. There."
"Alrighty," Billie mounted his own skateboard and Tre stopped with his fountain-splashing. He walked over to us.
"Ok... Begin on the count of three," Kyle stood before us with his arms outstretched. "One... Two... THREE!"
We set off towards the large tree at the end of the side walk. I glanced besides me at Billie Joe and sped up.
"Amy!" I heard someone yell. "Watch out for that-" My head shot forward just in time to have me crash into the tree. I fell backwards and stared up at the sky.
"Did I win?" I asked, looking up at my friends who were now circling over me and asking if I was okay.
"Yes, you won..." Billie smiled and helped me up.

"I can't believe you already have to go. You guys just came like... A week or so ago," I said and hugged Ashley. Mike and Tre were helping to take her bags out of the car.
"I'll miss you, Ames," Ashley returned the hug. Amy let go and proceeded to hug Kyle.
"Sorry for... Well... What I did," Kyle apologized quietly as he hugged me.
"Don't be sorry, just it was a hell of a job to get all that blood off the wall. Billie's mom had a fit when she saw it," I laughed and squeezed him a bit tighter before letting go.
"Well, we don't have time to walk in with you, the guys have a gig," I told them. "You're flight leaves in about twenty minutes, you better hurry."
"Okee dokee. Bye, Amy. Bye Mike. Billie. Tre," Ashley and Kyle said their final departing words and goodbyes and walked through the airport doors. I sighed and leaned back against the car, staring through the glass doors of the airport.
"You know, they were really starting to grow on me," Billie Joe said and leaned on the car as well, wrapping his arm around my shoulder and kissed my temple. I nodded slightly and closed my eyes which were glossing over with tears wanting to escape.
"Let's get going," Mike said, slipping into the driver's seat and we all followed suit. As we drove away, I looked back at where we left. I was really going to miss them...
