Starting Over, chapter 3

Over the next month, Billie Joe and Mike turned up wherever you were. At the mall, at bars, shopping for your mom. Always pretending (and not very well) that it was by coincidence they had run into you. They'd ask how you were, you'd ask if they'd found a drummer yet, they'd say no, drop a hint and leave. It went on like this for what seemed like an eternity, before one day you decided to put an end to the now boring games. You were going into get your moms' drycleaning, but before you could even reach the door handle, Mike and Billie Joe came walking down the sidewalk.
"Tre! Funny meeting you here!" said Billie Joe. "We were just here to...." he glanced around at the store names. "Get pizza. Yeah that's it. We are getting pizza. How 'bout you?"
"Getting my-" you conviently coughed out 'mom's' "-drycleaning. Is there something you wanna ask me?"
"No, of cousce not!" said Mike. "It was just a coin-"
"A coincidence? Yeah right. I highly doubt you would drive accross town for pizza."
Billie Joe sighed. "Fine. I don't know why this is so hard to say, it must still be sinking in that John's not our drummer anymore. But would you like to fill the vacant seat behind the drums Tre?"
You smiled. "Hmmm, let's see. I have no friends, live in my parents basement, and I haven't had a date in God knows how long. Let me see if I can take time out of my busy schedule," you add sarcastically. "Of course I will!"
The next few weeks were a blur. You finally moved out of your parents' basement, and in with Billie Joe and Mike. You were back to your random self, and you were drinking and flirting for fun again. You spent almost every day with Mike and Billie Joe, learning their songs so that Green Day could once again perform. You had to get ready for a huge gig that was in 2 weeks. Nervous though you were, it was really exciting to be performing on stage again, after so long without a band.
Friday again. But this time instead of laying bored on a couch, you are sitting behind your drums, waiting for your gig to start. Billie Joe gave you a thumbs up. You could tell he was nervous, but it looked like he was more nervous about playing with a new drummer than performing on stage. You guessed he was wondering if you could rememeber all the songs. To be honest, you were wondering that too.
The houselights dimmed. Showtime. Mike struck the first chord, Billie Joe the second and started singing, then you came in with the drumming. At first, it was slightly awkward, you weren't used to them, they weren't used to you. But as the night wore on, your playing definitely improved, enough, at least to get you a standing ovation and an encore
The crowd cheered you off stage. Never had you felt so good after a performance. Mike and Billie Joe came and stood with you, both talking excitedly. You congradulate eachother on a job well done over a few beers. You had done it. You had gotten through an entire show without screwing up, played with a new band and songs you had learned less than 2 weeks ago. Well, one thing was for sure, this band was worth sticking with.
