Australia.

G'day. Here I am, going to talk to you about a country I live in. Australia.

Now, I don't know the first thing that would probably come to your head. Maybe a bizarre accent, a kangaroo as our form of transport or the Harbour Bridge. Personally, I don't think I have an unusual accent, but then again, I'm used to it.

I'm not going to be giving you a history of Australia. No no, that I have enough of at school. Instead, I'll be giving you an insight into my home.

We're not a very large country by population - only about 20-21 million people - but we are quite large by land size. We are the largest island in the world.

So, here is our national flag. Each star represents a state.



Now, I'll introduce our lovely Prime Minister. As we are part of a monarchy, we do not call our national leader a 'President'.

Moving on, Australia is home to some incredibly diverse wildlife.


A kangaroo...


A koala...


A frill neck lizard...


And a dingo. Not strictly a native. It is believed that with European settlement came pet dogs who escaped and lived a life in the bush. They then continued to breed, creating almost a new species.

Now, in Australia we have winter during June, July and August, while summer is in the months of December, January and February. It gets very hot here, and we are often in constant drought. Yet lately, particularly where I live, we have been subject to massive downpours of rain - leaving us flooded and very wet.

There are six states in Australia. The states are New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Tasmania, South and Western Australia. There are also two territories are the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory. Each state has its own capital city.

I live in NSW.

The capital of Australia is the city of Canberra which is located in the ACT. New South Wales is the most populated state of Australia, and Sydney is the capital city.

So we move onto our culture. I know when I think of Australian culture, my mind moves to sport, or possibly a barbecue out the back with a couple of beers.

Cricket here is very popular in the summer. Pfft, we rule the world at it.
This man is Ricky Ponting, possibly a well known icon - our Australian cricket team captain.


We are also home to some of the greatest attractions in the world. Namely...

So, Australia is a lovely home. I would sing you a bit of our national anthem, but I have a terrible voice and should probably save you the trouble.

I don't know what inspired me to write this blog - maybe it was a sudden urge to show my country with pride. I have no idea. All I know is that it's a lovely place to call home.
