How To Draw: Eyes.
Boredom gave me the idea to do this. Yesh.
So, basically, whenever you draw something (not talking things like doodles, obviously...) you need some good paper, good pencils and good erasers. I usually use 2B, 4B and 6B when I draw, but for this how-to thing, I actually used a F. It was the first pencil I could find XD
So. Start with the basic shape of an eye. I can't really break it down any further than that. Add in the actual eye and an eyebrow too, while you're at it. Should look somethin' like this.
Look! A tearduct! A lot of people don't add those in when drawing eyes, but eyes have it, so... add it in there. o_o
Next, add in a little more detail. Like, eyelashes! When drawing eyelashes, a key thing to remember is they go out and up, away from the face. They don't just stick upwards, all shapeless and stuff. Also, they bunch up, tangle, etc... They're not meant to look absolutely perfect. Unless they're fake... Eh.
Yay for eyelashes.
Next, let's fix up the actual eye part. What's it called? An iris? Meh. So, yeah. When you look at an eye, you'll notice that they're aren't usually one colour, but have little specs in them and tend to be darker on the outer edge and near the pupil. My eye's going to be dark
When you're shading in the "iris", remember that if light hits the eye, you're going to have a little shiny ball thing XDXD. Yes. Having the shiny ball thing adds texture to the eye.
Blaaah.
Dude, that eyebrow needs to look more like an eyebrow. When making eyebrows, be sure to do each hair individually. Sounds like a lot of work, but it's worth it as it looks much better than just scribbling. Also, take note of which direction the hair grows. It usually grows out... like, in the oposite direction of the nose and then as it gets higher, starts to grow a little downwards... Really, just go look at your eyebrow, because I can so not explain this XD
D'you see what I meant? Neh? Me neither.
There's not much more for "steps" at this point. It's mostly just adding detail, highlights and shading. This is going to be really hard to explain... Bone structure, is all I can think. The browbone juts out, and therefore, light will hit it and create a shadow over the eye. And... The nose creates a shadow there too... And... OMG. I don't know how to say it. If you just look at your own face with light on it at different angles, you'll see the shadows that are created. Myeah.
This is it. My scanner takes away some of the detail, but I'm sure you get the idea. And maybe the finished product might explain that shading stuff XD Pictures speak louder than words, right? Well, anyways. Hope you learned something. You probably didn't but, hey this killed some time =] *shrugs*

As an amazing blog this is and helpful, I can't draw, and as much as I'd LOVE to be able to draw like you do, I won't be able to.

Awesome. Like Des, I clicked on it 'cause it was about drawing. ...Nobody taught me how to draw though, I just look at something and reproduce it on paper..
If that were my drawing I'd probably make the eyebrow a little darker. But that's just me. Your person could have blonde hair. :]

:D Nice blog. I clicked on it because it was about drawing. You said pretty much everything my old art teachers used to say regarding eyes.
Slappy, softer leads (4B, 6B, 8B...the higher numbers) are darker and smoother whereas harder leads (4H, 2H, H...lower numbers) are lighter. It makes shading easier. *shrug*
