Talking About Myself in The Third Person

I tend to talk about myself in the third person when I'm with my parents. As in "Case is hungry." or "That makes Case so happy!".

I can turn it on and off - I don't think I've ever referred to myself as "Case" when with my friends, simply saying the normal term, "I" or "me". So instead of saying "Case is hungry", I go for the more normal "I am hungry".

I've tried to contemplate why I do it. It could be for many reasons. Maybe I wish I wasn't myself, so I refer to my thoughts and feelings as though I'm someone else. Maybe I wish I was a character in one of my stories, so I talk about myself as though I'm in a story. Maybe it's because I'm just more comfortable around my parents than anyone else, so I goof off. Maybe I'm just quirky. I don't think I'll ever know exactly why I do it. Maybe I'm not supposed to know.

I think it's just a part of who Case is. Smile
