Sorry if this is stupid, duplicate or whatever, but seeing as Christmas is now only 2 days away, I thought this should be mentioned.

Should agnostics celebrate christmas??

Nearly everyone in my school doesn't believe in God, or Jesus, or have a religion, yet they all celebrate Christmas.

Is that not selfish, because after all, Christmas is about the birth of Jesus right? Not presents, and big dinners etc...

Your thoughts and opinions??

I celebrate it because my whole family does and Its not fair on them for me to not take part in it. They go to all the effort to cook me Christmas dinner, buy me cards and gifts and spend all day with me. I'm not going to throw it all back in their faces.

I HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THIS SO MUCH TO PEOPLE THE LAST FEW DAYS! AND THEY'VE ALL BEEN LIKE SHUT UP! Idiots! Rolling Eyes

I think Agnostics should, if they believe in Christ. But I don't think Atheists should. But..just my opinion.

All they care about is the fucking presents, that's all Christmas has become. So fucking commercialised. It annoys me so much.

*Shies away into corner*

I personally don't only care about the presents. Yeah, they are a perk, but I mostly like buying for people anyway. Like I have said before somewhere, Christmas is the only time of year I actually see most of my family. So i'm not just going to refuse to partake in Christmas and sit there like a lemon while everybody else is happy and merry.

Well yeah that's fair enough, but it's mainly the whole presents thing I'm talking about...

I think it's long since Christmas has lost it's actual religious meaning for most people. Now it's more of a family dinner thing, and I don't think an atheist should stay away from their family on Christmas - they just don't do the whole "Jesus is born" thing. Just a family dinner.
I'm not sure if I'm an atheist. Technically atheism is not raving a religion, so I guess I am that. But I believe in God, and God is more a part of my life then They are of the people who just go to church and pray from fear "What if He's really there..." So, I don't know whether I'm supposed to celebrate Christmas or not. But I won't because my family is 5,000 miles away and I'm in a country where Christmas is on January 7th. Confused

True, for my family it's never been about the religious meaning - I've never been to a church service (and I never will). This year I'm not really celebrating Christmas - for me it was about family traditions, spending time with family...as my family is all split up it doesn't feel the same.

Plus I find it's become far too commercialized (did our idea of Santa Claus come from Coke-Cola...the big marketing debate), I don't really care about the gifts. And my family did put a price limit on gifts this year $25 or under - I'm just baking stuff instead.

The idea of Santa Clause is much older than that - the red and white outfit belongs to Coka-Cola. He used to be in white and blue before.

My entire family is Christian, I am not, but I still celebrate it, although that's because I haven't told them yet, but... I imagine when I have kids I would still celebrate x-mas even if I do happen to bring them up as something other than Christian.

We used to decorate a tree out here, but since a few years we don't do it anymore. Probably because we haven't got the time for it.
However, there is a family diner every year, but that's because my great-grandmother's birthday was on Dec. 25th, so that hasn't got anything to do with Christmas.

I think Christmas has became too commercial. Go out on the streets, go to the mall, what do you see or hear? Christmas-music, Santa's etc.

Commercialised. Thank you. That's my thought exactly.
Except I'm an Atheist, and I don't care about the presents. Yeah, I like getting them, and I like giving them. I guess, come Christmas time, I just like to smile to everyone and generally make an effort to be more generous and nicer to people, instead of sullen and bitchy like I am usually. Y'know, get caught up in the spirit of giving and blah blah blah.
I don't actually like Christmas all that much...
