I HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THIS SO MUCH TO PEOPLE THE LAST FEW DAYS! AND THEY'VE ALL BEEN LIKE SHUT UP! Idiots! Rolling Eyes

I think Agnostics should, if they believe in Christ. But I don't think Atheists should. But..just my opinion.

All they care about is the fucking presents, that's all Christmas has become. So fucking commercialised. It annoys me so much.

and theres no way around it. you and i like presents. everyone does. i now don't even try to fight it... i just let myself be borne away on that steady stream of commercialism and greed.

That is so fucking..what's the word...narrowminded maybe? I actually couldn't give a fuck about the presents. And that is not a lie. Materialistic goods are one of the things least important to me actually. You can't say "everyone" because not everyone does.

different people celebrate Christmas differently
most just think it's about family and shit like that
most think it is about presents and dinner

it's funny though, Christians give permission to destroy Christmas (their holiday they made) yet homosexuals want marrige (their ceremony them and the Jews made)

just learn some stuff about it before you practice, that's all

Hmmm...this is an interesting discussion. Christmas is a pagan not a Christian festival.
The 25th December was celebrated in ancient days as the birthday of the unconquerable sun god, (variously know as Tammuz, Mithra, Saturn, Adonis or BAAL) centuries before Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem.
Nowhere in the Bible are believers in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob required to celebrate Christmas.
The early Christian church did not celebrate Christmas. Instead it celebrated the sacred festivals mentioned in the Bible, in Leviticus chapter 23.
In order to win Gentile converts to the Christian faith, the Roman Church, centuries after the apostolic era, adopted this ancient pagan winter festival of the sun god and renamed it 'Christmas' mistakenly thinking that it would honour the son of God. In my opinion, its more about commercialism than religion nowadays.

It was the 21st. But yeah, you know your stuff hun!

The thing that I don't understand though, is how the Bible brought in Adam and Eve, when, like you said, the earlier Bible has written about the Pagan festivals.

liek you lot say, some people are just in it to recieve presents, they've just forgotton what its really all about and thats sad, but that just goes to show what our society is like today.
You dont have to believe in god i feel to celebrate the true meaning of christmas, you just have to have the understanding of helping other and giving to make people happy...a time to put aside differences and to celebrate life.

You can tell by reading this thread who are the people who want for nothing...

I'd love to be all selfless and holier-than-thou and say I don't have a material possesion in the world but the sad fact is I needed those new socks my Grandma bought me for Christmas.

And I have a question....Many here have said "Oh, but Christmas has lost its meaning, Oh its so commericalised nowadays, Oh, its all about the presents...". What is so wrong with having an occasion where we can all gather together, give and receive gifts and generally have fun?.

We spend all year long working hard, is it so morally outrageous and selfish just to let off steam and be merry for a few days?.

I'm not moaning about that at all.

I'm moaning about the fact that a lot of people have forgotten the true meaning of Christmas.

Christmas never meant much to me. You can call me selfish or sad...call me what you will but the only fun I get out of Christmas is receiving and giving presents.

yeah, i mean all of us wanted something for christmas, its just that some people have forgotton what its about and just see at as a day to get gifts.
theres nothing wrong with having a day where everyone gathers together to have fun, its just that sometimes people can be overly selfish around christmas time

I agree with this topic. I don't really like celebrating Christmas for that reason.

I'm not that bothered about christmas at all, My family celebrate it and i do aswell (though i'm and atheist) i don't really celebrate the day itself, I just enjoy the time when my family is all together and my dad hasn't got to be at work all the time.

I guess what im trying to say is that i can do without the actual day itself and the presents but the time i spend with my family is the most important thing to me.

Pffft christmas has always been commercialized. Sure the baby Jesus was only just born when the three wise men came rushing in going "oh look what I got you"
