Stephen King Is Going Blind

Horror writing superstar Stephen King is going blind, after developing a condition called Macular Degeneration. The Green Mile novelist - who was severely injured in an car accident in June 1999 that left him in critical condition - claims he has a hereditary disease and that he could lose his sight at any moment. But King refuses to let the prospect of blindness get him down. He says, "At least I'm alive - that's the way I feel about it."

It reminds me of Jorge Luis Borges, a spanish author; he went blind too 'cause of a hereditary disease..

I work with eyes - so to speak - age is the main risk factor for developing MD (Macular Degeneration). As you get older the risk increases.

Fragile macular cells are susceptible to damge. People with a low intake of antioxidants may have increased risk of developing MD. Same applies to excessive alcohol and high fat diets.

Cell damage from the sun, especially people with light coloured eyes, may be more prone. Use sunnies.

Although age related MD is not hereditary, it is believed that people with a family history of MD have an increased chance of developing it.

Hope that helps. Smile

PS - I love his books but am not so keen on the films - well the scary ones that is - don't like being made to jump out of my skin - Cujo springs to mind.
Loved Shawshank Redemption, Stand By Me and Green Mile - now they are good films. Cool

I've seen Cujo, Carrie, and The Shining but I've only read/finished Carrie. I started The Shining, but there was something else I wanted to read first.

Anyway, he's an awesome writer. Retard
