Evolution happens through a little accidental mutation in the genes of an animal. If this new deformation or alteration of the animal or plant happens to improve the survival of the living thing, if it's lucky, it will thrive and create loads of baby animals or plants some of which will inherit the mutation and create a gene pool. Eventually, this new breed will compete with the old one and the deveation will help its survival chances and then over take the former species, thus becoming the new and improved whatever. Evolution is a process of constant mutation and adaption, over coming the previous version of species.

The reason we have four limbs, fairer hair, even something as specific as green eyes, it all due to genetic mutation. Here's something, the reason we all have a sense of wonder and reason is of course because of our larger brain compared to other primative apes, for example. We have become immensley intellegent and outwitted evolution itself by securing ourselves. We have made great expanses of roads and cities, we've built houses, walls, we have computers. All of us do. This is all thanks to our larger brain. And the reason our brain has had the ability to grow so large, is due to a mutation, of course.

I believe our closest relatives in the animal kingdom is the bonobo, so imagine us as something like that, millions of millions of year ago. One little bonobo like ape is just being born. Meet your great-great-one million times-great-grandfather. He has a little alteration in his genes, and his jaw is weaker than the other apes. He cannot eat the tough vegetation which grows in the rainforest, but his brain is larger than the rest of the animals, since the jaw isn't sqeezing the brain or restricting its growth. This ape then goes fuckie fuckie and makes a tone of babies, and half of them have the 'weaker jaw syndrome'.

This however is the end of the mutation and the beginning of the adaption stage, since they have inherited the different jaw. Their brains, slightly bigger as well. So on so forth till now. That is just some of the evolution of our brain.

That was to clarify somebody's opinion on a different thread.

Anyway, do you believe in evolution, or creationism, or other theories that I don't know of? Is God behind it all? Also, are humans still evolving? The latter is something I've always been interested with.

ZOMG I love you. I have this ginourmous obsession with evolution. Do you read National Geographic? The main article of the March 2006 issue is about where man spread out and evolved after migrating from Africa. Evolution, I think, really depends on the environment that the tribe migrated to.

In Africa, its hot. Hot hot hot hot. You have dark, frizzy hair from the heat and dark skin to avoid damage from UV rays and sunburn. In Asia (China Japan Korea side), its a bit colder, but the hair stayed dark and thinned a little. I still have to look up stuff about climate there and Asian body structure, but yeah. Also, Asians and Negroids (its not a rude word its scientific) have similiar noses. Wide and flat. Also, many Negroids also seem to have the skin over their eyes like Asians do. I don't know how to explain it, but Caucasians have hollow faces. There's no extra layer of skin that causes to look like the eyes are buried in the face. Same with South Asians and South east asians. Coming to that area, Middle East and South Asia, the people have lighter brown skin, again because of the sun to avoid UV damage and sunburn. Thick, black hair from the heat and humidity (although mine's all falling out Sad). But I'm beginning to think Indians are God's joke. Take the hairiest people in the world (no lie) and place them in hot, humind climate. Gee, what fun.

Anyway, yeah. I'm still doing research for Caucasian body types and Western world climate and for Spanishy bodies and climate there. Evolution happens. I think Mexicans are actually a product of evolution. Because the Spanish people came and after torturing the Natives, interbred with them. That causes a mixing of genes and some new genes. Some Mexicans and South Americans also have wide flat noses and Asian-type eyes, which Natives had as well.

Also, in some areas, there wasn't much evolution. The Andaman Nicobar islands. There were three tribes there, The Onghies, Jarvis and Andmanis. The Onghies and Andmanis were friendly with anthropologists and tried to communicate. They even traded a little. But y'know not for technology or anything. That would have screwed things up, obviously.

But the Jarvis were clannish and xenophobic x 432543535. They hated outsiders. And they may actually have been the oldest form of human. A woman and her children were separated from the tribe and the police helped them. A few days later, the woman and child were cast out for accepting help from outsiders. 'Course, they're all gone now, sadly. Thats what really really sucks. I dunno where I'm going with this. I'm just sharing some random hypotheses and facts...

Also, I believe in both God and evolution. Who says he didn't make evolution happen? He could have created the world without physical laws and biological boundries. But He did, and evolution tagged along.

Technology, I think, has screwed with the evolution of man.

There are of course some remote tribes in Africa and Papua New Guinea and a few Pacific islands who are totally cut off from the technologically advanced world who are different to us. They have bigger lungs for the higher, mountainous climate in Africa where the air is thin. And they are smaller people who are built with shaper senses and stockier legs for running, in order to hunt.

But, aside from all the adaptions of different cultures, in the small world where everybody is exposed to something which is artificially made, there is no need to evolve.

Canadians do not adapt to the cold by growing hair or having smaller ears and digits because we let the technology do the work for us. We have big winter coats to keep us from the cold, and instead of us adapting, or technology adapts for us. Ever noticed that? I certainly do. Whenever we find another problem on this Earth, instead of us trying to fix is, it's us trying to improve something to fix it.

Ooh! ooh! Ohh! There was an island...forgot the name! Florene or something like that. Anyway, there was evidence that humans somehow figured out how to sail and they sialed to that island and hung out there. They had ample resources and lots of food. They barely needed to defend themselves as there were no predators. Anyway, they shrunk and got pianists fingers and they just chilled, basically. And they rode around on giant rats and stuff. Coolest thing ever. It was on the NG channel too.

*is a geek*

And yeah, I noticed that. We've escaped the cycle. In Hindu philosophy, they talk about birth and rebirth. I think that just may have somethign to do with evolution. I'll have to look into it thought. I just have a hunch. But we just make what we need to survive using things we've made. Machines to make more machines. and while we do this, we're destroying other species like bears (google Bears in New Jersey). Perhaps thats part of evolution? O_o...

Also, I'm assuming you go to college or have a job or something. So, would evolutionary science come under genetics? Would I have to take a genetics major or a bio major or is it its own category?

Ahh! I saw that!!! Ahbrow

*iS A GEEK TOO.*

*Pressed the Caps Lock button by accident.*

Me? College? Bahahahahaha. lmfao

No. Next year. I'm just applying though. Thinking of London. I have a job, but waitressing isn't much of job. Evolutionary science...would beeee biology. Cause it's with genetics. Yeah, I'm kinda studying genetics in bio right now.

Basically, it's surprisingly broad, but there are several courses involved with evolution. There's like paleontology, and bio geology, with fossils and stuff. Then there's developmental biology and evolutionary developmental biology. There are also theoreticians in population genetics, that might be for you, as well as sicocultural evolution and evolutionary behavior which is a bit of phschology, as well. I'm not doing my IB psychology, but I'm taking it as a extra, and it's really interesting.

I love you, did I mention that?

Gaaahhh! So much to choose from! I want to apply to UC Berkeley. Not just because its 20 minutes away from Oakland. They have really good science programs and I got half my school research from their site. They're number 5 in the world. I wanna do psychology too...*indescive* *doesn't know how to spell that word* My dad thinks I'll turn into a freak though, what with all the mentalness. Rolling Eyes

But I think Evolutionary Developmental Bio and Evolutionary Behavior sound really awesome, too.

I don't like Newsweek. Completely biased and alway very negative towards everything.

Anyway, you can't rate unis because you choose one according to your taste. It's like music, different genres for your own preference.

Wow, this topic is way offtopic File lmfao

Well, my theory is that we are one of a trillion and forty-two paralell universes. Each universe is governed by a different animal. Like, in a parallel universe, cats could rule the earth and use us as pets. And the reason behind all these universes is that it is actually a scientific experiment held in a supreme universe by Kaleds. (Shifty) This race of robots are trying to figure out which animal is the most intelligent and which they should breed.

I like the part about there being many different universes...
not so sure about the rest though. XD

That evolution is non-existant and is actually props set by the superior race to not freak us out.

Basic creationist junk.

Personally, I think that theory blows all other theories out of the water.

Not the Hindu one. I know I'm a big huge braggy bitch, but it is the oldest religion, the most complex religion, the most science based religion, the most believable and somehow entertaining religion. Indian rishis and yogis and gurus were the world's first scientists. They calculated the Earth's circumference long before Vasco De Gama's grandparents were born.

And according to our scriptures, which are many, evolution happened. Its written there. There's records of mutants and shit, too. Anyway, according to the Hindu creation theory, the three main incarnations (Vishnu. Siva, Bramha) and their female counterparts were chillin' and there was some kind of brainstorm thingy and yeah. So they made evolution happen.

Pwned.

So they appeared and for some reason had a brainstorm and magically life was created?
