You can't learn French!

Kidding Mr. Green
It's an hard language from an external point of view. I mean, of course, I can tell you "nah, French is easy!" because of course, I'm french. But if I start thinking from an english point of view, yea it's hard.
I wish I could speak Polish since my parents are both Polish but I don't think I could have the patience now.
I should have started when I was younger, it's easier when you're a kid.

Good luck with learning french though! Mr. Green

My dad learned Russian when he was eighteen visiting the Soviet Union, now Kazakhstan. He's quite good with languages, except French. He learned Russian at eighteen, Thai in his thirties, Welsh when he was maybe eight, and even though they aren't his mother toungues, he's fluent in them all. You know how they say you pick up languages more easily when you're young? Not for my dad.

When he converted to Islam, he started learning Arabic, he's still quite good. His frequent visits to Vietnam make him better in Vietnamese and he's learning quite fast in his fifties. He decided to start learning Spanish for only a couple of trips to South America about ten years ago. He learns languages on a whim, with no real purpose.

The only language he never seemed to maot was French. He blames it on the fact that he 'absolutely hated' his French teacher in secondary school, and he never uses the word 'hate'. He isn't bad...but I'm better than him, so that is saying something.

If he wasn't a scientist, he would be a languages specialist or something, but since French was the only second language they offered at school, he had to resort to the sciences. That was good for me though cause if he hadn't done that I would be born! Cheese

Anyway, that's quite off topic now, and off topicness seems to be my speciality today so now I'm going to shut up.

Actually, thinking about my dad and his French teacher, I never really liked any of my French teachers until my last year in school. (I love how I can say that now...sorta.)

I find language teachers in general are all quite...annoying, really. I never liked my German, Thai, Spanish, Latin, Welsh teachers and I've only ever liked one out of, pfft, maybe five French teachers. I particularly did not like my German teacher, nobody ever did. We all avoided her and talking about her. If we did mention her, we called her...The Fraud.

I started taking Spanish lessons as a free program our Ministry offered for kids to take over the summer. I know I wont learn perfect, but I will continue in high-school and so far I love it.

in such a world it's important to know various languages and use them in eventual diplomatic jobs that involve politics and all...

actually the hardest language, for me,is Portuguese.
it has lots of grammar rules, words for usage, pronounces, etc.
for a latin-based language it's quite hard to know,in my opinion...

I'd love to learn Latin. It sounds quite tricky, but I love seeing links between languages.

I love French as well. I partially wish I was taking it next year, but the syllabus doesn't look great.

The links between French and Spanish are fascinating. Cassie

I was never really interested in learning a language, but they make us take at least 2 years of one at school, and our choices were Spanish, French, and Latin, so I knew I'd go with Spanish, that was a no-brainer because I knew it would be the most useful and probably the easiest to learn. I took my first year of it this year, and I enjoyed it. I'll probably go through 3 more semesters of it. In the United States these days, it will probably come in quite handy in the future, once I learn more of it.
