She couldn't talk to her mom so my sister talked to ours. My mother agreed to purchase the morning-after pill. The morning-after pill is a pill you take after you have sex. It can keep fertilization from occurring, but cannot destroy an egg that has already been fertilized and "planted" [so to speak]. It works up to 72 hours after sexual intercourse. If you are over the age of 18, you can buy this drug. Other than that, you have to have a prescription. I think that is completely and totally wrong. Kids should not have to go to their parents to get this pill if they need it. They should be able to go into the drugstore and purchase it themselves. It's just like any other contraceptive. There should not be an age limit. Discuss. |

But I suppose I can sort of see a few reasons why they would put an age limit on purchases of it. For one, they could be trying to deter younger kids from having unprotected sex, because if they do have it, then they can't get the pill.....I can't think of any other reason right now, but there is probably more legitimate ones out there. But I do agree with you. If there were no age limit, imagine how many unwanted pregnancies would be avoided, or how many abortions wouldn't need to be performed. |

But they were the ones who engaged in unprotected sex in the first place but that punishment would be a tad too harsh, thats what i think, u no, not being able to "undo" it kinda? So it would be much better with the pill being purchased by whatever age group. I agree with Vanity, so many unwanted pregnancies and abortions would be avoided if that pill was in the reach of the kids themselves...and imagine the embarasment in front of their parents...wouldn't happen with my mom though... |

The government wouldn't want to admit kids that young need the pill. I do think 13 is far too young to have sex, ESPECIALLY unprotected sex. I mean, what was going through her mind when she thought 'Hm..that might be a good idea?' I mean, I know this isn't what we're debating, but I think it applies to anyone of that age who has sex, unprotected or not. |

I think they mostly keep it prescription only or 18+ normally because it's a good system. I don't know the sister's situation but to me 13 is still a kid, so I think sex should wait. |

Here, we have that O_o "Centre de plannification": you can discuss your sex problems with a specialist, see doctors and they give you birth control pill for free and the morning after pill too if you had any problems. Of course they don't tell your parents about anything. You go see them, have an appointment and that's it. That's really cool. |

And here, you can go to your doctor at any age without your parents knowing, and he can prescribe you your pill for free, if you're under 16. Hmm. I don't really see the problem. |

| Biffy Clyro Basket Case  Age: 32 Gender: Male Posts: 16018 | I'd honestly think keeping it (or having it) over 18 is a good idea. You could claim this is because I'm male, but that would be silly. Keeping it over 18 means that an adult will need to be involved and they can teach the child about safe sex. In my opinion, that is no bad thing. |

A lot is made of how modern-day children are losing their innocence. I think it is possible to help children maintain their innocence while helping those who choose not to to learn about the consequences of such actions. |

My stepmother would have called me a whore, insisted I was having sex, and grounded me. My dad... well, he was whipped. Taking away this pill will not force parents to talk to their children and it will not keep teenagers from having unprotected sex. It should be legal simply because people are unwilling to talk to kids about sex. In my sister's library there is a poster that tells them not to have sex before marriage. In our entire town 1/5 pharmacies sold the morning after pill. And my state produces over 50% of the entire country's unwanted pregnancies. Coincidence? No. Everything needs to be done to ensure that these kids can have safe sex, Christian morality aside. If they forget and worry after, give them the god damn pill. Would you rather have your kid not come to you and take it or come to you and be pregnant? |
