Rap is not a genre. It's the practice of rapping (the person who does the rapping being called a rapper), which is included in nearly all hip hop (which is an entire subculture and not just a music genre) as well as sampling, record scratching, drum machine, and sometimes beat-boxing.
I did a whole course on this shit and it irks me so much, and makes me hate genre's even more now.

Also, I agree with Run DMC being mega. You following Rev Run on twitter? 
So what do people think of sampling etc. being used in songs?
I know that it causes a lot of controversy amongst people(especially these whole 'not being cleared' complications), and it's argued that it's 'unoriginal' but honestly, I think for a start, it's a whole lot more original than covering a song, and most people seem to have no problem with that. |
