Sexting is when someone uses a cell phone to take a sexy/nude picture of his or herself, with the intention of sending it to at least one person. Now, common sense would tell you, "hey, that's stupid", right? Well, there are some people out there who think "Yeah, it'll only go to this one person, it won't get sent around at all!". The reason I'm making this is because there is a huge case going on about it in my town:

Sexting case

What are your thoughts on "sexting", and what should happen to people caught "sexting"? And please, don't make it 5 pages of "WHAT A IDEEOT LULZ".

Ahhh, that sexting thing on the news this morning. Also, if you're under 18 and you take a picture of yourself that is revealing, that is considered child porn. So, even if you did it yourself it you're braking severe federal laws and what not. Tbh, I've never even heard of this happening. If you had common sense you wouldn't be stupid and do that. It's illegal to do it if your under age but it's not if you are over 18, I think there is something wrong with that. Ew D;

never heard it be call that but nice way to put it instead of 'noodz' in this case

it is really is ignorant to do it but some people think 'oh it's my bf/gf they wouldn't send it to anyone because it's for them'

I know a few people myself that have gotten into situations like this involving both the internet & 'sexting'

plain & simple DON'T DO IT!

Oh we had a big deal about that a while ago, in my town.

A 15-year old girl had taken like, 5 different pictures of her entire naked body, and some closeups. She sent them to her boyfriend, and when they had a bad breakup, he sent them on to everyone he knew. I don't even know her, but I also received it at a time (a guy thought it would be funny to say it was a song, and them BAM! I get a vagina in my face) but deleted it. Everyone in the town knows who she is because of it, but I don't believe the police was involved.

I personally think it's stupid. Even if you send it to your boyfriend/girlfriend, you don't know what will happen if you perhaps have a bad breakup like I mentioned, or if you send it to someone you shouldn't have trusted.

As for what should happen, I think it's very individual. Ofcourse, I understand that it will be considered child porn when the person is underage. I guess it could be treated as child pornography, but I think that might be a bit harsh, as the person probably did it in free will, but ofcourse, they could've been bullied into it, or threatened.

My roommate's brother (who is 14) had some kids at this school get in trouble for sexting. It's stupid. But then again I guess it is like phone sex. Can you get in trouble for that? It's still disguising though.

Stuff like that happened in my highschool...
If any girl did it they were automatically a slag but surprisingly it seemed it was more guys with pictures of their penises than girls with nudes..
But girls were more likely to initiate the sexting.

I was reading an article about this and did you know that the boys and girls involved in these things (in the US at least) are charged with possessing/distributing child pornography? That makes them a registered sex offender, even if they're just some 14 year old girl who made a dumb decision. I think that's ridiculous.

Yeah, a guy at my school last year had a video of a 17 year old girl doing stuff and he sent it to some of his friends who were 17 or 16. He had just turned 18 at the time. He's in jail with about ten charges of distributing child pornography.

There's been cases of this happening pretty much every other week in Massachusetts. No The most recent one was of a 21 year old soccer coach who sent a picture of him naked to a 15 year old girl, and now he's arguing that she asked for it. It's like wtf dude, your 21, she's 15, make a smart decision.

It's so sad that we have this kind of technology and this is how some people try to use it. No

Honestly i think this is why all picture taking phones should be taken off the market. Not only do they allow images as discussed here to be circulated, they also provide for 'Peeping Tom's' to avail of picture taking their prey and any old So-Joe could be taking a picture of you on the bus to edit onto a pornographic movie.

Sexting is a bit out of the ordinary. I certainly wouldn't be sending revealing images of myself to anyone, not even my boyfriend(which i don't have because a certain SOMEONE won't text me back). But I would have text sex File

That's completely absurd. Should we ban cameras too? They do the same thing. Just because some people misuse a device is no reason to ban it.

It's absurd to you, sure. But which is easier to spot? A mobile phone, that someone could be "texting" on, but actually taking your photgraph, or a camera.

As far as I'm concerned, the camera is more noticeable.

Macfadyen , there was no need to sound so sarcastically rude about it. I was just giving my input.

I said that's why I think they should be banned I didn't say They should be banned. There's a fine lined difference between what I meant and what you're assuming - thoughts can change depending on circumstances.

Banning the internet is near well impossible, but to ban picture phones all that needs to be done is for the manufacturers to stop making them .

There was a brief period in time, here in Cork, where certain stores took the picture phone off their shelves due to the circulation of a rather disgusting picture.... some girl was in her school uniform and she had her legs open and was sticking a Mars Bar up her private area.... it speaks for itself, really.
Eventually the picture phone was restocked after the hype had died down.

Sorry, but if people want to make porn videos involving chocolate bars, nobody has any right to stop them.
Providing that they are a consenting adult it is all a matter free will, and as far as I'm concerned, up to the individual. Just because some may find it distasteful is no reason to remove all camera phones.

In any case, stopping camera phones wouldn't prevent pornography or this 'sexting' business. Banning phones would never work, anyway. Hello, black market. And no phone company would want to do it, look at the money they would lose. People want these things. It's supply and demand.
