Yes. What are your opinions of Green Day's new album 21st Century Breakdown?

Personaly, I love it. And it's really nice to hear Mike singing on American Eulogy. However, I'm not too sure on the piano bits yet. Meh, I'll get used to it.

Anyway...

What do you think?

My first opinion was: where've they gone? What happened?!

But after listening properly, I think there's enough hints of 'old Green Day' mixed in with all kinda of new amazing things to make it really, really good. It's probably one of my favourite records in a long time Smile

Also, 21 Guns gives me chills because it's such a lovely song.

Annnd, on a slight side note, did anyone else watch Green Day live at Abbey Road on Channel 4 at 1pm today? Billie's voice sounds... different. I think he's always been a good singer (or showman, at least) but it almost sounds like he's had voice training or something, haha. Very good, either way Very Happy

Personally I really like it. It's quite a different sound from nineties Green Day, but seeing as I'm an American Idiot-era fan, it doesnt really bother me. I like that there's a few ballads in the mix as well, especially Viva La Gloria!, the piano intro adds a really nice touch I find.

Overall, I think it's a really good album. I've been reading some reviews online and a lot of people are saying its their least favourite album, but for me it comes in at about 2nd or 3rd, after Slappy Hours and/or American Idiot.

Yup, I saw that. His voice was interesting, especially in 21 Guns.
One thing I noticed was that they're wearing earphones. They never used to. But in the middle of American idiot Billie took them out....Hmmm

I love the album. I know they have matured, but as I've said:

This album has their differentiallity of Warning and Nimrod mixed with the let's-go-get-it attitude of Insomniac and American Idiot put together....

However many of the songs....I'm sitting there and it's like, "I've heard this before"

A lot of the riffs are extremely similar.

I agree with Allasandra upon my first listening...
I thought it was pretty mellow but it definately had old style GD in it which is what made me love the album.

Like Alexi pointed out, yeah some riffs are very similar to older songs... from the warning era (Warning is my favourite album though Very Happy)

Favourite songs are:
Christians Inferno (Very Networky)
Last Night on Earth
Peacemaker
Restless Heart Syndrome
Horseshoes and Handgrenades...
21 Guns...

almost every other track it seems....

As a whole though,
WELL DONE GREEN DAY FOR PRODUCING ANOTHER BRILLIANT ALBUM!

Edit:
I forgot East Jesus Nowhere...
Maybe I should've just listed the tracks I didn't love?

Is it just me or does The Static Age sound like Church On Sunday?

It sounds simular. And the drums at the start also sound a bit...Dookie/Insomniac-ish.

I think maybe they had them in because there was no crowd/audience? I know Billie doesn't like to wear them during shows so he can interact with people... that's the only reason I can think of! 21 Guns was lovely Clap

I thought so too! Mr. Green I'm not sure if it bothers me or not though... hmm. Also, Christian's Inferno sounds like something by The Network, maybe Spike?

EDIT: I also think that American Eulogy (Mass Hysteria) sounds tons like Deadbeat Holiday!

THIS. I was listening to it the first time, and I hear the line "Red alert is the color of panic " which is the same notes as "Wake up, the house is on fire!". I can't even help myself from singing "..and the cat's caught in the dryer" following that line.

I love it. It took a couple of listens for it to grow on me. But now I can't stop listening. I got it over a week and a half ago but I'm still listening to it non-stop.

I was thinking, some of the songs that sound nothing like older Green Day are some of my favorites. They're completely different but somehow, they just work. Right now I'm pretty sure this is some of the best music they've ever written. I can't wait to see them perform this live, because it is going to be mind blowing.

I ADORE it. It's my favorite they've done so far. I just think it's absolutely genius. 21 Guns is honestly my favorite song EVER! I think it's a really great fusion of classic Green Day and new age. Razz I just honestly think it's beyond amazing. Absolute love.

I love it! The first time I listened to it I thought it was just okay. But I listened to it for a second time (just now) and I love it!!! It's EPIC!

Damn it's going to take forever to learn all the lyrics. It took my forever to learn the lyrics to AI, but I did. And now it is the only Green Day album I know all the lyrics to front to back. I think...

Did you guys hear GD's cover of A Quick One While He's Away by The Who? It was on the bonus tracks on itunes. I thought they did a great job on the cover. I mean the original is better, but I was impressed. Con
